There’s a lot of bad ones in here but I think this one pisses me off the most because it’s worded in a way that will almost certainly pass. This one needs means testing or a separate amendment for the disabled. Our schools are in trouble
Prop 11- increase exemption from property tax for elderly/disabled

Facially good, actually terrible. will cost Texas schools 1.2 billion over two years and 477 million/year after that. Huge shortfall to already struggling public school system. Agree with goal, but can’t afford
Prop 17- exemption on property taxes for improvements to land for border security infrastructure

Likely a hand out to rich south Texas land owners close to the border wall. Lots of big ranches down there. No
Prop 16- amendment clarifying a voter must be United States citizen.

Again vague and superfluous. Non citizens can’t vote in federal elections. Legal non-citizens SHOULD have right to vote in local elections. They live there too.
Prop 15- amendment exempting affirming parents are primary decision makers for children

Vague, unnecessary, and presumptively part of R moral panic over trans kids. No thanks
Prop 14- establishing 3billion fund for dementia research institute, research for dementia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s

No issue here. History of dementia in my family, terrible, terrible disease. Would prefer it at federal level so as not to take other funding, but lol
Prop 13- raising property tax exemption for school districts from 100k- 140k

More gutting of school funding. Will cost 2.7 billion in general revenue immediately and 1 billion annually after that. Abbot hates the public school system
Prop 12- amendment regarding state commission on judicial conduct to “more effectively sanction judges and justices for judicial misconduct.”

Fascist dogshit. Abbot and co hate the “liberal cities.” Will be used as a political cudgel for anything they don’t like
Prop 11- increase exemption from property tax for elderly/disabled

Facially good, actually terrible. will cost Texas schools 1.2 billion over two years and 477 million/year after that. Huge shortfall to already struggling public school system. Agree with goal, but can’t afford
Prop 10-exemption from property tax for home destroyed by fire

Good, limited, helpful
Prop 9- amendment exempting from prop tax personal property held for production of income

Bad in conjunction with increase to deduction up to $120,000. Business handout
Prop 8- amendment prohibiting “death tax” (inheritance tax)

Bad. Already no inheritance tax, but fuck you in the future if you ever get wise to taxing massive interfamily transfers of wealth between richest Texans
Prop 7- amendment authorizing exemption to property tax for surviving spouse of veteran who died from service related condition

Good, limited and helpful
Prop 6- constitutional amendment prohibiting legislation from enacting law imposing tax on securities transactions/broker

Bad. Hate prohibiting legislation again. Ploy for Texas “yall street,” corporate handout
Prop 5-constitutional amendment authorizing exemption from ad valorem taxation tangible personal property consisting of animal feed held by owner of property for sale at retail

Generally against, seems like big business/ag hand out. Not an ag guy tho, farmer could convince me it’s necessary
Prop 4-constitutional amendment dedicating portion of revenue from sales tax to Texas water fund

Good, needed. Water infrastructure needs upgrading in face of climate change. Maybe we can delay mad max water wars a bit
Prop 3-constitutional amendment requiring denial of bail under certain circumstances to persons accused of certain offenses punishable as a felony

Bad. More anti-bail reform for the carceral state, continued eroding innocent until proven guilty
Prop 2- constitutional amendment prohibiting the imposition of tax on realized or unrealized capital gains on individual family, estate, or trust.

TERRIBLE. Texas loves prohibiting future legislation while Rs hold power. Set aside unrealized discussion, banning REALIZED cap gains is asinine
Prop 1- amendment providing for the creation of permanent technical institution infrastructure fund and available workforce education fund to support capital needs of Texas State technical college program

No real qualms here, pretty good
I had seen very few people talking about it but there is a special election in Texas tomorrow voting on amendments to the Texas state constitution. There are massive implications for most of the amendments and I’m relatively certain most don’t know it’s even happening. Thoughts🧵
