Unfortunately the USA has not only declined to be part of the international criminal Court but has in fact sanctioned members of the international family court. Your nation has gone rogue. And nobody from the outside is going to come and save you.

brianmlucey.bsky.social
And Americans still think that their local small town police forces are going to stand up for them....

brianmlucey.bsky.social
My feeling is it's up to voters to educ themselves.
As Lincoln said "the people can vote to turn their backside to the fire but then they will have to learn to sit upon the blisters".
This, them, now

brianmlucey.bsky.social
Don't rural areas vote disproportionately for Republicans?

brianmlucey.bsky.social
Are we just after Antonine and heading into cyprian 😬

brianmlucey.bsky.social
I'm going to regret asking you this, giving you have an unnerving ability to find dystopian but sadly plausible outcomes.... Where do you see this going? This being the United States speed running into whatever it is?

brianmlucey.bsky.social
Real Americans don't order foreign stuff remember?

brianmlucey.bsky.social
I mean forget about the fact that the Northeast voted overwhelmingly to stay within the union. Or that legally, the war of independence was actually declared by us.

brianmlucey.bsky.social
I'm suggesting that there must be some democratic law officers somewhere who will take the step of arresting some of these goons for the innumerable laws they are breaking

brianmlucey.bsky.social
I'm suggesting that some senior democratic leaders, whether in state or federal situations where they have immunity from their speech, start reading out the names and addresses of ICE leadership

brianmlucey.bsky.social
I'm suggesting that for example the senior democratic leadership could show up at some of these protests and just beg to be arrested and handcuffed

brianmlucey.bsky.social
I'm not denying facts. I live in the place.
I'm pointing out some of the well-known economic issues. Fun fact... That's kind of my job. No I and others have been polite to you to suggest this things are not as simple as you suggest so please return the politeness

Yes this is something about which we are quite aware. Multinationals however tend to have multi-billion investments and don't just ubsticks chasing marginal tax changes.
We already increased our taxes and didn't see any major changes.

brianmlucey.bsky.social
the tax issue may have been part of it in the past but now its much much more ecosystem+education+eu base

Irelands GDP is ....buggy. Other comparison metrics are more meaningful. Overall, Ireland is about the same as UK overall BUT that is dragged up by London and SE

brianmlucey.bsky.social
There's no guarantee Scotland would be in the EU. Almost certainty it would require a significant amount of work. It's going to take years..
And I doubt if GDP would double.
Plus it would only have as a proportion if you didn't add any more debt which given the deficit you run...

brianmlucey.bsky.social
The last time the UK broke up was in 1921. You might want to have a look at what happened then. Because that's the pattern. This is not how it works.

brianmlucey.bsky.social
Ireland was in a effective currency union, with the Irish punt fully backed by Sterling, from 1922 to 1979. We suffered serious devaluations and currency instability until we join the exchange rate mechanism.

brianmlucey.bsky.social
It's a tiny bit more difficult than that.
If you created a Scottish let's call it shilling, it would immediately suffer a massive devaluation. Good for Scottish whiskey and oil, very very bad for imports.

brianmlucey.bsky.social
I doubt that very much. This is a human thing.

brianmlucey.bsky.social
If you haven't noticed, the Republicans don't care and the Democrats don't act

brianmlucey.bsky.social
The American opposition has been astoundingly quiet. I suspect that if the union of French second level school librarians was to organize opposition it would be far more effective than this

brianmlucey.bsky.social
In business and management the UTD24, a list of 24 journals that somewhere along the way the University of Texas at Dallas put out, is seen as the most gold standard.
Honestly, when academia put US academia on the altar it was a grave grave mistake.

"Faculty members are uncertain whether discussing scientifically-accepted concepts in their disciplines, such as biological intersex conditions, historical gender systems in various cultures, or legal frameworks governing sex discrimination, could result in termination." #TXHigherEd #AcademicBluesky

brianmlucey.bsky.social
The currency issue is the impossible trilemma.
This has been explained to Scottish politicians for decades but they are unable to come up with a coherent plan to explain this to the voters

brianmlucey.bsky.social
Yes.
Did you expect anything else? Many are quite happy with this. Others are absolutely precarious and will not put their head above the parapet.
Most university leaders are a politicians and well...

brianmlucey.bsky.social
Yeah maybe. But you've got to get that whole we're independent thing going. I mean we did it. 100 years ago. Take your time.

brianmlucey.bsky.social
And the opposition is doing what? Is it thoughts and prayers? Because that worked so well for school violence

feds have been all over chicagoland today.

reports of people abducted from back of the yards, cicero, rogers park, hermosa, barrington, batavia, and bridgeview.

feds are out in force in aurora. not sharing video, but residents have likewise turned out in force—and they aren't happy.

brianmlucey.bsky.social
Looking at the screaming mess of insanity that passes for UK politics, there is zero chance of the EU ever letting you guys within an asses roar of joining.
