Which makes Al Khelaifi’s role at UEFA interesting. He may be quite OK with the status quo. He may also see the need for continental cooperation, which would mean alliances with Florentino (with whom he has a good relationship) and Laporta (with whom he does not).

The likely counter to Premier League dominance would be greater cooperation by the big clubs on the Continent, like how the Big Ten’s response to the SEC was to add the four best programs on the West Coast (and they will also grab UNC, UVA, Clemson and FSU if they get the chance).
