“…what use had they for tricks and cunning, living in the enemy's warren and paying his price?” - Watership Down

It is a book about rabbits, as Richard Adams asserts. But…it is very much a book not *just* about rabbits. 🐇

If every time the White House changes hands, every state who didn't vote for the victor has its public works grants cancelled, we're literally never going to get anything built in this country again.

Absolute insanity. -- www.nytimes.com/2025/10/15/n...
"The White House referred questions to the Office of Management and Budget, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Steve Sigmund, spokesman for the Gateway Development Commission, which oversees the tunnel project, declined to comment on the president’s remarks.

John J. McCarthy, the chief of policy and external relations at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which is building the Second Avenue Subway extension, said his office had not been contacted before Mr. Trump’s comments."

To become dependent on ChapGPT is to evacuate yourself from your own life.

YIKES, no thanks. I’m gonna be alive inside every damn thing I do, even and especially the ish I don’t wanna do.

the psychological toll of living in a society where everyone is out to compete with, profit off of, and scam everybody else is indescribable
I’m less than an hour from the city. There’s so much going on all the time - I was just downtown for a concert last week. Adding EW to my list of things to check out. There’s a tabletop gaming store at one of the local malls!
Oh heck, where was it?? Is this an event that happens every year?
Yeah me neither. Been feeling pretty shitty overall and…now I’m just feeling extra shitty.
My husband has decided that he thinks AI generated videos are great and doesn’t care how I feel about it. So that’s fun to know.
New art??

Yes, new art. Rabbits, still, though. Need to clean this up a bit & apply a light berry-tea stain, then paint!

Very bad: OSU unilaterally cancelled the registration of grad students attending the joint conference of the National Society of Black Physicists and the National Society of Hispanic Physicists. And OSU won't fund recruiting at the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science.
Ohio State changes policy on group conferences after Trump administration threats
A federal investigation into potentially discriminatory practices at Ohio State prompted the university to change its policies regarding conferences.

I applied to EDO a couple of years ago and didn’t make the cut, but it looks like someone doing a straight up trace of a generated image from the slop machine is in this year’s batch of new artists added to their roster.
:fast blink:

Oookay then.

And this is one of the supposed geniuses building our new world order.

Explains so much…
Honestly, as stressful and exhausting as this year has been - it all started to fall apart back in February and got exponentially worse over the summer - I am kind of looking forward to taking a little break, and finding out what comes next.

I’m being laid off from an organization where I’ve worked for almost 22 years, and luckily I have a retirement account to draw from to keep the bills paid for a while. But when - *IF* - I actually get to retire, I’ll have considerably less available to me. I know people who have zero savings.
As climate change increasingly becomes a threat not just to homes, but to the very foundations of retirement, even the most careful savers are finding personal effort can’t outpace the risks woven deeply into the financial system.

The “justify your job” nonsense is why I log every single instance of what I do in a workday. Reply to an email? Logged as a task. Complete a data review for financial reporting? Logged. All of it. So that when asked, I can send one massive spreadsheet to show precisely what has been done each day.
I lived in Florida during the Bush-Gore election that involved the “hanging chads” debacle. I guess we can look forward to a repeat in the near future. I wonder how many states & counties with Dominion contracts are consulting with legal regarding termination options.
We already overwhelmingly use paper ballots. They just aren’t hand-counted like they used to be. But yeah, an openly partisan voting tech company is…not great.
