Canada’s video game industry is MASSIVE but under-appreciated.
That’s been bothering me.

So, I spent the past 1.5 years asking dozens of AAA/indie devs, actors, lobbyists & more about how to address this & got an incredible range of perspectives! 🇨🇦 🎮

Love seeing Vancouver-based @sunsetvisitor.studio's 1000xResist coming to more platforms! 🇨🇦 🎮
One of the most powerful gaming experiences I've ever had with one of the medium's absolute best stories.
Can't recommend it enough.
Award-winning Canadian indie 1000xResist coming to PlayStation, Xbox and Game Pass
The debut title from Vancouver-based Sunset Visitor was one of 2024's most acclaimed games, and it's about to drop on more platforms.

Yeah, 100%. At $500, the Steam Deck a justifiable companion if you own a console or even PC. But $1300, though? And if you *really* cared that much about high-end specs with portability, why would you not just put the money towards a gaming laptop which can do much more?
I also do think it’s funny to already see some people who also reviewed this be so glowing and basically excuse the price tag. You got it for “free” for work, so it’s easy for you to wave away the cost. But $1300 is an obscene amount of money for most people! Important to not lose the sight of that.

When the Steam Deck came out, it hit that sweet starting price of $500. That made it a great option for people to dip their foot into handheld gaming PCs. But why would you spend $1300 for a gaming-only portable device? It’s just hard for me to recommend to anyone, even if I like it.
I really like a lot about the ROG Xbox Ally X, like its form factor, support for multiple storefronts and solid game performance. But at $1300 CAD, I just don’t really know who this is for. It just feels like we’ve lost the plot with handheld gaming PCs.

ROG Xbox Ally X Review: High-quality, very high price
While there's a lot to love about it, the $1300 cost has me questioning who this is even for.

‪Seeing a trailer for Marty Supreme and, Josh Safdie, my man, why did you have to have Kevin O’Leary in this? 🤮 ‬
Only seen 6 movies this month so far, I’ve been slacking. Catching up on a few before my next trip!

I absolutely adore @doublefine.com, and so it was a joy to get to speak to creative director Lee Petty about the team’s latest game, Keeper.
Loved getting his insight into how COVID inspired the game, crafting a dialogue- and combat-free experience, the impact of surrealist art on design and more.

@mattleone.bsky.social’s Final Fantasy VII Oral History is my favourite piece of games journalism ever. So exciting that he’s covered another one of my favourite games.
Can’t wait to read this later!
For the Shadow of the Colossus story, we interviewed 14 people including project leads Fumito Ueda and Kenji Kaido, hired Gravity Rush concept artist Takeshi Oga to illustrate the cover, and put together a 10,000-word story with help from @milkman.bsky.social @shmuplations.bsky.social and others.

I didn’t hope for much from a mobile game, of course, but I certainly wasn’t expecting to wake up to see *this* from Dissidia…
