After the nonstop parade of layoffs in public media (which is sure to get worse now that CPB is officially dead) I have this to say:

If you're a GM/CEO who's over 60, makes more than $150k/yr, and is laying off your senior SME's and managers?

You're a piece of shit, and you should be fired.

Police officers should feel disrespected. Our entire system of government was designed without respect for them. -OS

Evans is also a quiet screaming example of White Privilege, I would add. It's easy to be blase about this stuff when it's not your own ass being deported to a Venezuelan prison.

I feel like this started eroding badly with "embedding" in Gulf War 1, and largely collapsed under Obama.

But I wouldn't be surprised if one can find historical examples that point to other specific times.

I mean, reporters have been wildly over-reliant on official spokespeople for 100 years. But there was a while after Nixon when it was understood you had run the gamut from whore yourself out there to threaten with a public hanging...and do whatever it took to get a source, any source, on the record.
braddeltan.bsky.social
I feel like there's an entire generation of reporters that's lost the subtle yet necessary art of seducing a source.
braddeltan.bsky.social
I understand there's now a medication for that.

Personally as the guy raising the money to pay this tool's salary, IT'S AN INTERESTING STRATEGY.

This is why NPR is doomed. It's full of egotistical ivory tower assholes like this.

It's exacerbated by how the psychopaths in MA & RI who actually put "R" on the ballot are REALLY fucking nuts. They're light years past Noem and DeSantis on the right wing crazy train.
braddeltan.bsky.social
I think some of this crap comes from states like MA & RI where 95% of the state legislature and senate are "Democrats" but 30-40% of those are essentially Republicans circa 2000-2016...but they put "D" next to their name on the ballot b/c it's the only way to get elected.

I was under the impression that Ozempic had limited benefit for Gumby until he started chasing it with turpentine.

The side effects were...potent.
braddeltan.bsky.social
I remember hearing he'd been cast as the lead villain in a Star Trek TNG movie (Insurrection) and thinking there was no way it could possibly work...and he stole the goddamn show.

The Republicans are so completely Nazified fucking ghouls that it's hard to remember the Democrats are, as a party, in favor of EVERYTHING the GOP is. ALL of it. They just don't want to look like Nazis while it happens. That's the only difference. The Dems are not going to save us, folks.
braddeltan.bsky.social
The fundamental problem, sir, is that what the Democrats need to do to win is what their moneyed class absolutely will never let them do, which is to stop giving all the money...ALL of it...to the moneyed class. Any consultant spouting nonsense like Jentleson is bought and paid for by that class.

I take great issue with calling whatever the hell GPB is doing with WRAS as "competition" and the ratings prove it.

Both damning and yet nowhere near harsh enough.
NPR: C

National Public Radio’s political coverage has often been an exercise in bothsidesism. In a typical segment in recent years, an NPR host interviews a Republican liar, lets them lie with little or no pushback, and then thanks them for the interview. Since the GOP-led Congress cut off NPR’s federal funds, I’ve noticed a bit more aggressive reporting, but it’s still not as tough as it needs to be.
braddeltan.bsky.social
My apologies. I assumed you meant WABE since GPB has no real presence in, or relevance to, the city of Atlanta. 🤪😉

Yes I'm aware of WRAS and my goddamn point stands.
braddeltan.bsky.social
Oh yes. My dream is to someday reach that sublime state of grace when I can get enough money to subcontract out everything I do to a horde of young minions.
braddeltan.bsky.social
Note that I didn't say Mills' contempt for the electorate wasn't wholly justified.
braddeltan.bsky.social
Maine Democrats excel at shooting their own dicks off (regardless of gender) but here we see how much contempt Mills really has for the electorate. Does anyone believe a US Senator EVER leaves voluntarily after one term?
braddeltan.bsky.social
If they keep matching your money demands and you still don't want to do it, demand enough money so you can subcontract someone else to do it.
braddeltan.bsky.social
There's a big, big difference between "state-owned" and "state-run". WABE is the former, not the latter.

Not saying it doesn't have its problems, but connotation matters.
braddeltan.bsky.social
Quite possibly, but it's still worth looking into. If this is from a particular rich bigoted asshole on Nantucket, even if they're just the local face of it, then that's still worth knowing.

Perhaps most importantly: if this PE idea works well? Right wing propaganda outlets will undoubtedly copy it and appoint their own market wise "public editors" who will act entirely in bad faith to destroy/blunt the good ones. How do good faith PE's deal with that?
