Yeah, I also noticed this. In a way, I think that Chainsaw Man is kind of like Silent Hill in that regard.

The guilt and shame of your crime are deeply buried in your subconscious, but certain elements will seep through and haunt you in your nightmares.

I had the same thought: What if she subconsciously wanted to get bullied as punishment for letting her father die?

I mean, the class president perhaps said that she tripped her, but there is no guarantee that it was that which ultimately made Asa fall.

I always interpreted Asa's reaction to Yuko confessing to murder as her being too shocked to react, but given what we learned this chapter, it is entirely possible that she is just numb to murder confessions due to having the confession of her mother in her subconscious for the entire time.

It would be to their benefit as well, given that homicide cases like these would certainly be handled by the police.
By operating and spreading inflated numbers for deaths through devil attacks, they get to legitimize their own existence and work in the eyes of the public.

Not just in terms of not doing proper forensic work, but also ignoring obvious stuff like the devil probably being unable to lift the rock or bring up enough force to bash in a head like this.
(On account of it not having any fingers to lift a rock of that size.)

I have my doubts that the cause of death of Asa's father would be ruled as a devil attack by anyone that doesn't explicitly want to see it that way.
If I had to guess, then there probably is an unofficial policy by Public Safety to not pry too deep into any case that can be ruled as a devil attack.

This kind of reminds me of how everyone claimed that they received guns through the Gun Devil, even though everyone involved knew that it was a lie.

I am wondering if this could also be like that, a collective lie that everyone chooses to believe in order to hold society together.
