Pin it to me, baby!
I'm Daniel, an Omnigamer and amatuer cook who loves to explore new ways of thematic expression in games, especially through the shared experience of food.
My feast content is on hiatus while I explore new options, but you can find me as cohost on @omnigamers.bsky.social
I'm standing behind an arrangement of Lord of the Rings games and memorabilia and a plate of ring shaped pizza pretzels. I'm standing in front of a kallax shelf of games wearing a cooking apron, and holding a wok in front of me. The board game Wok N Roll is inside the wok A berry pie with a large X cut in the top and several cold coins on a table with various components for the board game Forgotten Waters arranged around it. A plate of salmon with a berry compote and grilled carrots, alongside various components for the board game Cascadia.

Truly incredible storytelling in the dramatic irony of a desperate father turned to banditry mistakenly killing his own daughter...then they both explode. The Greeks got nothing on this.

We're already at a point where remakes and platform differences can muddle the commonality of how we experience games. But the push towards AI creating customized unique fanfic for each user will eradicate that all-together. Far from the worst part of AI but still rubbish.

So fascist capitulation may have come for every streaming platform but we'll always have podcasts.

🎉🔥🎉ANNOUNCEMENT 🎉🔥🎉DAY🎉🔥🎉

Jonathan Rey Lee’s book on CATAN is almost out. It’s the first in the Tabletop Gaming series that Paul Booth and I have been hard at work editing this past three years. Anyway, the book is fantastic. Please consider it and share with the right people.

Cool, I've been looking to alternatives to Crunchyroll, I'll take a look.

I've been thinking a lot about video game remakes/remasters and why we shouldn't mistake them as an act of preservation. I do think we lose something in the inability to compare experiences of a singular piece of art (beyond my difficulty in looking up advice for Final Fantasy Tactics)

Our latest episode is here and for Thanksgiving, we’re laying out a spread of Trick Takers, discussing the genre, our favourites, and where the best place to start is. We also revisit our thoughts on video game remakes and remasters, their intentions and values.

Tariffs are putting US game companies out of business. (Note this is the US subsidiary of AMIGO, not the whole German company)
amigogames.bsky.social
Very sad news: After eight memorable years in the American market, AMIGO Games US will close its doors at the end of 2025. Thank you to our team, partners, and players for your support along the journey.

AMIGO Games' products will continue to be available while supplies last.

There's enough open-endedness in the different paths to give a sense of exploration and that any difficulty is a hell of your own making

Tried the Cairn demo after Jusant turned out to be an all time favourite. This is definiately more in the vein of QWOP or Getting Over It, with punishing fail states, but the Survival Sim layers may push me over the edge.

An excellent little analysis on overcoming challenge in cooperative games, that I think is somewhat applicable to competitive games too. I'm always a little disappointed if I manage to max out a track and find a sense of mastery in my first time with a game.

My series Philosophy and Board Games is back, this time discussing Mara van der Lugt's 2025 book Hopeful Pessimism. I relate its concepts to cooperative board gaming, framing the discussion around the merits of difficulty and challenge.

Ok yeah, this still slaps. I love the gimmick of the town building and having to bounce your workers around to harvest the resources. Joyfully dumb fun
Screenshot of the town building phase, showing a grid of forest and wheat tiles, with a predicted line of where townsfolk will bounce as you fling them.

I didn't really love Old Man's War, but read the first few chapters of Last Emperox and really enjoyed it before realizing it was book 3 😅

Oh I forgot I downloaded the M&M demo last night! I was just thinking I'm in the mood for a survival game, so I'll take a look at Solar Punk. Generation Exile is a city builder but describes itself as solar punk and left a solid impression

My foray into word games continues. My daughter wanted to try Illiterati from the library, but ended up trying it with my regular group, and some rule squiggliness aside, it's a blast in fulfilling the various themes and challenges.

I'm having to dig pretty deep to find any Steam Next Fest Demos I'm keen to try but it's a fantastic excuse to try Goodnight Universe.

Getting a lot of boss baby vibes from this demo.

I missed a chance to play it at the full indie summit, but this thing pulls so many magic tricks. Play as a psychic baby, controlling the game with your face via the webcam (though I'm not sure it's prepared for my cat).
A screenshot from a first person perspective looking down an office hallway filled with balloons. In the corner is a capture of a webcam showing me with a cat standing on my shoulders. Screeshot from first person perspective of a baby on the floor looking at a scattering of toys. A checklist in the corner gives a list of things to tidy up.
