This is going to sound like the rantings of a lunatic but... Barenaked Ladies have a song which originally sounded a fair bit like this. Not a ripoff, but like possible inspiration? BNL played "Adrift" live a few times before they recorded it but changed it a lot for the album.

(1) Just because peaceful protest may not be sufficient to win this moment does not mean that it is not necessary.

When my mom's paternal grandparents came over through Ellis Island whoever was recording the family's info left the Z off the end of the last name. It didn't change the pronunciation but it was a change to the family name.
