As I remember it, the episode first went out slightly cut, because of the birthing scene. First time I saw it complete was on DVD.

Rest in Peace to the great Drew Struzan, a man whose work sparked the imaginations of a whole generation of movie nerds. The master is gone.

I had the privilege of visiting him in his studio once and getting to talk shop. Here’s his words on one of his masterpieces:

If nature were left alone, it grows back batter than any human micromanagement can. We can only leave nature alone if we end meat & dairy first.

Domestic rewilding in rich countries is the worst thing we do today is. Insanity or Earth denial.

Their live-action book adaptions, such as Treasure Island and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea are also pretty ‘tough’. It’s really the brainless, non-comedies of the sixties that gave them a terribly twee reputation.

Oh, absolutely. The lynchee is saved, Ustinov keeps a black friend hidden from the klan and then pelts them all with molotov cocktails!

It’s still a shock to see a burning cross in a Disney movie.

Treasure of Matecumbe (1976) also stars Vic Morrow as the evil baddie. And Virginia Vincent, the year before she played the ill-fated mom in The Hills Have Eyes!

Peter Ustinov, Joan Hackett, and Brion James!

Truly wasn’t expecting a Klan lynching in a Disney movie.

Ah, the seventies. Still full of surprises.

There’s no such plaque in Ernest Hemingway’s house, where Dalton jumped over the balcony.

You’d better stay away from Lego.

That’s a shame. Professional, relaxed and drily humorous.
