Soon the IMO will meet to vote on their new Net Zero Framework.

Biofuels cannot be included: they only drive deforestation and land theft.

Join us at 9am on 20th October outside IMO headquarters to call for real climate solutions, including demand reduction.

"The biggest threats to butterflies (...) are habitat loss and degradation. The primary causes (...) are agricultural intensification, wetland drainage, land abandonment and overgrazing from livestock.

Over the last few decades, climate change has had a major impact on European butterflies".
The new European Butterfly Red List is published today, with worrying findings. Over 1/4 (28%) of Europe’s 442 species are threatened with extinction or are close to being so. The situation is far worse for our 148 endemic species, 40% are now threatened or nearly so www.bc-europe.eu/webpage.php?...

If the government is serious about ending unabated biomass by 2031, it must ensure new contracts (including those linked to AI) don’t undermine that promise.

This guest blog from Biofuelwatch lays out the case:
Burning trees to power AI, really?
This post is by Almuth Ernsting and Robert Palgrave of Biofuelwatch. Earlier this year, while greenlighting further subsidies for Drax through to 2031, the UK government signalled that unabated bio…

Legal battle over a data centre in Ireland which could more than triple the electricity consumption of the entire country.
🚨 Permission for Irish data centre megacomplex could send dangerous signal for Europe. Today we’re supporting a legal action taken by Friends of the Irish Environment and @foeireland.bsky.social.

The global shipping industry could create massive demand for crop biofuels and this is... not a good thing.

Prediction from @transportenvironment.org earlier this year that shipping climate targets which allow biofuels like palm oil could see nearly a third of global shipping running on biofuels by 2030 - fuelling deforestation.
Demand for biofuels has already massive grown - so far mostly for road transport in Europe, the USA and elsewhere. There's nothing remotely sustainable about the global biofuel market. It's long been linked to deforestation, land-grabbing, high carbon emissions.

The Chancellor says she 'fixed' a problem caused by “some snails or something”.

Comments like this pit nature against growth – it’s the wrong target.

Here, the system has worked: protecting one of UK’s rarest species while allowing 20,000 homes to proceed.

There is a reason why species are protected. To risk the extinction of a species for a few houses is #uncivilised, #ignorant, #AntiScience and shows no respect for life-forms considered more lowly than herself. Who's next?

NEW: 156 organisations call for EU-wide ban on new waste incineration.

Why?
🔥 EU already has 60M tonne overcapacity crisis.
🌍 Higher carbon emissions than many energy sources.
♻️ Blocks circular economy progress.
