Very much looking forward to being in Gartmore on Saturday to celebrate the world of Don Roberto. Anyone who calls Westminster an Asylum for Incapables is a Scottish national hero in my book.

One of the highlight of the summer was to visit San Giulio in the Lago di Orta in Piemonte. There I found what everyone is searching for - La via del silenzio - the path of silence. May you find yours, brothers and sisters.

To any Greeks feeling aggrieved today, remember that your hero George Gordon, Lord Byron was a Scot who died fighting for Greek independence.

The mountains look on Marathon,
And Marathon looks to the sea:
And musing there an hour alone,
I dream’d that Greece might still be free.

A week today I’ll be in beautiful west Stirlingshire to talk about my books and discuss Gartmore’s greatest son, Don Roberto. That’s him as a young gaucho in Argentina on the cover of The Scottish World.

An excellent book by the way… searched high & low for my copy today but couldn’t find it. I know I’ve left it somewhere ‘obvious’ for important things!

Greeks will not be sad - lived in Evvia for nearly a year & found they are most wonderful, kind, fearless & funny people with much in common with Scots (apart from weather)
They all remembered Byron as an inspiration almost a saint.
