Ooft. I know that feeling! After my first hip replacement, the day I made it down the end of the street was, well, such an achievement. Exhausting and emotional like you say. Round the block next!

I WANT A CAR BOOT KEYBOARD
Photo advert/article from She magazine September 1962. The photograph shows a man sat playing a baby Wurlitzer keyboard which is sat in the boot of a car. A woman and a man look on.

And this is the lasting legacy of The Allisons! Still, even this short bit of background music (from an advert I'd long forgotten until Tim shared it, in classic @looksunfamiliar.bsky.social style!) probably netted them both a decent bit of publishing royalties!

I loved every episdoe of it! Right from the start, so, IMO it doesn't get better, it starts great and stays that way throughout, but thats the great thing about opinions, we are all entitled to them! (Within reason). G

Which is exactly why we here at Big Sort HQ like it! Garry is a massive Alien fan and loves to have anything set around that ‘world’ and Paul loves overly complicated slow Sci-Fi series*

(*although Foundation is taking that a bit far)

No, other direction. Maybe I’ll go there later!

An interesting instrument in its own right… nicely restored/maintained. I’ve never seen a five string banjo with the fifth string fed through the neck from the headstock rather than on a side peg!

Unfortunately I wasn’t part of the tour group today, but everyone seemed to be having a marvellous time!

…but also their newest instrument donation - the Quarrymen banjo, as played by Rod Davis and donated by its current owner Ashley Davie.

A fantastic piece of musical history, as played by John when he’d break one of his own strings at gigs!

Strawberry Field was unveiling not only their wonderful photomosaic wall today on @johnlennonofficial.bsky.social’s birthday (are you on there?)…

Ah yes, that famous vinyl retailer!

It's kind of insane how records are infiltrating so much again - becoming a hugely fashionable thing. Only a couple of years ago the Books Stall that visits our work was mainly that - books - now boxes of records are taking over.
bigsort.bsky.social
Sadly not. I shall have to use my own!
bigsort.bsky.social
I suppose there comes a time in every Beatles fan’s life where they find themselves buying Press To Play and Rotogravure on record. My time is now! (P)

I should have answered, "Because MUSIC is brilliant and changes and enhances life in a million ways, also we're teaching people how to use the technology that affects you every time you watch a film, use your phone, put on the TV, switch on a radio... (and it's all taught in context as well)"
bigsort.bsky.social
And reminds me of when I taught Music Technology in a college, one of the more senior lecturers from a different discipline could not understand WHY. She'd characterise it as 'playing guitars and that' and do a stupid air-strum gesture. I'm still mad about it now, years later!
bigsort.bsky.social
Not just yet! That'll be coming along in the new year... we've quite a few orders of business to attend to first!

Recording for the next block of episodes for the ongoing epic that is Series 4, The Big Sixties Sort Out, begins today!

We'll be back soon.

For three years in the mid-sixties, The Beatles had their own cartoon series - from the same team who went on to make Yellow Submarine - and now everyone pretends it doesn't exist. So I joined Paul and Garry on @bigbeatlessortout.bsky.social for a chat about it...
