a handful of episodes ended with a Heart mask zooming in on the frame, which I now know to be a 'Love, American Style' reference. but Ive never seen that show

lots of dead 60s and 1970s TV shows up in there. gunsmoke, bionic woman, Andy Griffith Show, Gillian's Island, etc etc

something I think about a lot is how much the Simpsons (season 1-8) didn't hesitate to reference obscure and popular media from the 20th century

I would see parodies of the classics long before I understood they were parodies. this is so important for a child's brain, so see the Before Times

we grew up in a strange century where many things had been around approx 100 years, sort of a fixed bubble. Cars, phones, radio, TV, print media. so you could talk to someone that was 60 and their lived experience was not too far off

its always been a pretty overtly political film, but 47 years of fandom and merchandising has largely occluded it

I want sony to make an Arm-powered PlayStation Pixel (or whatever) and its just a cool, low-powered grey box , geared towards indies making ps1/ps2 style games. costs $100

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

all of this is to say, if you don't provide advanced tools or pipelines for developers, to leverage all of this "new power", then you will only end up with a handful of AAA games that each cost 60-150 million to make

those games will be boring by default, because no company wants a $150mil risk

I have yet to play a single PS5 game. I have no felt compelled to even buy a ps5 yet, the library has been so meager

and I say this as someone who bought a ps1, ps2, and ps3 with fervor. they're making hardware so advanced that no developer can live up to the specs, because they don't provide tools

Im just seeing less and less potential tapped with each generation. the budgets and team sizes are absurd, no one can make a ps6 spec game except maybe rockstar, EA, activision, ubisoft, and even they are basically chewing up people to accomplish it
