I’m listening to WNYC’s election coverage (never stopped even after moving to LA) and the most interesting calls have been from parents who say they were persuaded by their children to vote for Zohran Mamdani. It shows that those dinner table conversations can sway people.

When Stewart and Colbert rose to popularity in the USA, I knew it meant at least a slight increase in American satirical literacy... but it was also sad, because satire is a natural reaction to The State becoming more authoritarian. Many older nations can't remember life =without= pisstakes.

This New Yorker documentary about the 1988 UK government ban on broadcasting the voices of Sinn Féin and I.R.A. leaders is pretty good but they show *that clip from The Day Today with no explanation and no indicator that it is satire.

I always say, 'security and convenience is a seesaw.' You won't lose something if you chisel it into a boulder, but it's hard work to have. I think the password sweet spot is to inconvenience yourself as much as practical using some system you made up, which produces gibberish to any other eyes.

One of earliest viral videos ever was the #SouthPark Jesus v Santa clip that a colleague gave me on a zip disk. I was already mad for cut-out animation at that time. I loved the show's colourful bizarreness, and its satire is enjoyably bold – just not so much whenever it resorts to punching down.

Actors in Dr Who commentaries and folks on my feed put me on the lookout for it with their praise, and I sat down to the first two episodes tonight blissfully unaware of anything at all about it, not even the genre. Great story, look and cast. And all those locations are properly round my manor.

Local knowledge: I expect foreigners could get 'nose round your gaff' from context, but 'Logopolis' never once names Jodrell Bank: I don't think it's in the script either. Everyone British just looked at the model and assumed... until The Master finally namechecks it in Spyfall, Part Two.

I love the diffuse recesses in this Tardis control room, suggesting other rooms or even engines beyond. And I love this final year of the 1963 police box prop, caked with old paint and generally worn down like a true, universe-spanning timeship that's seen loads of adventure.
