Imagine if you paid to go to fucking Oxford and English professor made you buy his book for his class and page one was like

Ho! Old Man Willow, what are you a-doing? You shouldn't be a-waking!

ma'am you're going to have to post that pasta

the law states you're gonna have to show them noodles

Introduce any one: less comprehensible math, storytelling, sexuality, and you're instantly off the charts in terms of psychological complexity. The simplicity of the bargain here is a beautiful and understated comment, imo

I would agree, but it takes two to tango here.

There's the absolute minimum of dialogue between the developer and player here. It's just "20% chance, you want?" And that's already enough to hook the nest of uninsulated wires that is the mind

The most fascinating aspect of Unfair Flips is seeing how an honest description is activity feels like criticism, even condemnation.

My first instinct was to say "wow what a mean game!" but that's not even slightly true. It just gives you a complete report of the odds, and that feels hostile.

If I ever write something half this sycophantic, I pledge that my next step will be off a cliff like Wile E. Coyote.

I am forever getting duped by some a24 minimalist aesthetic into watching movies about human cruelty. They know full well -- they KNOW! the only thing I want to spook me is demons.

comrades, is it bougie to be ground by the heel of the state?

You can write it in the newspaper. You can write it on my grave. I got mad and I stayed mad and I'm still mad!

As someone who has dabbled in making things for sale in America, I will literally never stop being mad about this.

I'm sure they break and aren't always replaced on old machines, or maybe I'm just wrong. It should be a fairly safe machine (albeit the only power tool I've ever hurt myself on!), but some people certainly do seem to go out of their way to make them more exciting.

You'll see dudes in short ties and cuffed shirts jovially come within inches of disemboweling themselves with a radial arm saw, and they've got blade guards on their bandsaws
beasmeeply.bsky.social
As far as I know, that has always been an essential piece of the tool. I use a band saw nearly daily and would not operate one without an adjustable blade guard.

The primary question to ask yourself is: how well do you tolerate regret?
beasmeeply.bsky.social
Best fit for the prompt. I'm not sure I actually like it? But it's certainly a thread in the tapestry of my understanding of aesthetics

For instance, I just finished reading The Left Hand of Darkness for the first time and I really liked your afterward! This is where I typically put additional text that is strange and off-putting, but I'll just put a period instead: .

I assure you sincere fan mail exists -- I make a point to send a few cringe-y notes of appreciation semi regularly. Many of us simply do not know how to communicate without betraying ourselves as pod people.
