During the technical testing of the cargo boom under load, the floating crane PK-400 "Sevastopol" capsized and sank in the Southern Bay of Sevastopol. As of now, two people have been reported dead.
Thamesborg‘s journey from China to Canada was supposed to take just three to four weeks via an Arctic shortcut. It ended up lasting more than two months. Cargoship ‘Thamesborg’ Arrives in Eastern Canada After 10-week Odyssey, Grounding in Arctic gcaptain.com/cargoship-th...
(Film Through Arie Palmers). Like Arie ssys: clusterfuck or errors leading to an incident that could have ended as a fatal accident!!!
- no lee
- belting not cut back
- speed to high
- boat not fit for purpose
- etc etc etc, the list is endless

7/x On June 9, 2025, an explosion occurred on board Wan Hai 503 near Kochi, India. 4 crew members died.
6/x On January 3, 2017, the Singapore-registered Wan Hai 301 collided with the Gibraltar-registered APL Denver off Pasir Gudang Port, Malaysia. The collision resulted in an oil spill of approximately 300 tonnes from the APL Denver's bunker tank.
5/x A low-speed collision between the container ship Ever Memo and Wan Hai A09, termed a "love bump" at the Port of Savannah, USA - April 22, 2024
4/x The new Wan Hai A02 (13200TEU) collided with the bulk carrier Vassos 2 (81,600 dwt, owned by Safe Bulkers) while departing Tan Cang-Cai Mep,Vietnam, en route to Shekou, China. The port side of Wan Hai A02 struck the stern of Vassos 2, pushing it into the wharf and damaging the facility.
3/x The Wan Hai 312 struck and damaged a revetment along berth 64 at Kaohsiung port, Taiwan. The ship was detained for inspection and repairs, resuming sailing on July 13, 2023, and arriving in Shantou, China, on July 14, 2023.
2/x On a Saturday evening in February 2023, the Wan Hai 288 (2038TEU) collided with the Resurgence (920TEU) in the Long Tau river, Vietnam. Wan Hai 288 sustained a gash in its hull above the waterline and mangled boxes above the impact area, while Resurgence had a large chunk missing from its bow.
1/x WAN HAI ships have had their share of bad luck in the past 2 years. The Wan Hai 272 (16,776 GT, built 2011) collided with the Santa Loukia off Bangkok, Thailand, and ran aground.
Het Loodsenfront heeft beslist om de stiptheidsacties tijdelijk op te schorten tot 30 november 2025. De loodsen willen zo het overleg met Vlaams minister Annick De Ridder en federaal minister Jan Jambon alle kansen geven.

14/x Next time we'll talk about another study. Also remember: Russia and China are increasingly flagging their LNG ships in the new open registries (dark fleet flags) to circumvent sanctions. I'll just leave that here
13/x Using those formulas they found that R of a fireball of 147200 m3 LNG ship is 1130.4m, and duration of fireball is 175.4s. Below graph gives you the results of the calculation with distance to explosion on the Y axis and the exposure time to (q) on the X axis
12/x That last one, combined with exposure time, determines if death, 2nd degree or 1st degree burns are the result of exposure. Take note, all above assessments were done for an average MOSS type LNG ship, carrying 147000m3 of LNG.
11/x And finally 3. BLEVE. The ILO has done some work on this and came up with some formulas to calculate the radius (R) and duration (t) of the fireball and the radiant heat flux (q).
10/x They came up with the formula
R = S(NE)^1/3, where R is the damage radius, m; E is the explosion energy, kJ, N is the efficiency factor, S is empirical constants, depending on the damage level. Below is the damage assessment from the VCE
9/x Anyway, even using 8 we end up with an F&EI of 168. What does that mean? The hazard is "severe". Now to point 2. the VCE or vapour cloud explosion. Technische Universiteit Delft suggested a method to predict the damage radius of shock wave in vapor cloud explosion.
8/x To keep it short, they analyse the process, materials used, etc.. and assign Hazard Coefficients (F) and Material Coefficients (M). MxF=F&EI. the higher the numbers, the more risk. Funny enough, the M for LNG is 28,97 but Dow limits the M value to 8... If its higher than 8, they just use 8.
7/x the DOW safety assessment method. DOW method can be used to identify, analyze and evaluate inherent or potential fire and explosion hazards in the production or the operation process. They've come up with a score, the F&EI.
6/x LNG will start boiling at -160C. OK, back to 1. Fire Risk. We'll start with a breach of containment due to collision or grounding. This may lead to leakage of liquefied gas, which will result in fire accidents when encountering fire. When assessing the risk we often use
5/x A first study breaks down an LNG ship explosion in 3 different groups 1. Fire risk 2. VCE (vapour cloud explosion) 3. BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion). The last one is for boiling liquids. LNG is transported at -162C (-260F) and has an ignition point of 650C (1202F)
4/x they were foreseeing an increase in LNG traffic to Chinese ports. Anyway, back to ships that go boom-boom
