i feel like once you've made it to the drop nobody is allowed to be mad. they had like three whole minutes to be mad but now that time is over
the missing link between Big Black esque 80s noise rock and 90s midwest emo. spooky scary but also sentimental

i think it's important for children to spend a lot of time bored out of their minds visiting relatives in very old houses crammed full of old family stuff and forced to examine the old stuff due to there being nothing else to do and it concerns me how people in my family keep moving into new builds
everything good about my psyche is predicated on a childhood spent thumbing through semi-interesting reference materials

the fat stack of weird old paperbacks and your aunt perming your mom's hair is how great writers are made. i don't think culturally we've developed any substitute
you should check out my video if you haven't already bc its pretty amusing. also the next video will have a hilarious and genuinely unscripted pratfall
I just launched a youtube channel with my first video essay:
A Defense of Messy Music, where i talk about hellhammer, the meat puppets, flipper, and why they're all so good

both great writers, neither exactly subject matter experts
a weird thing i've noticed about rock criticism from the '70s (thinking of Lester Bangs and Robert Christgau here) is that those guys weirdly didn't know what guitar feedback is--they pretty consistently say "feedback" when they mean "distortion"

the style has had pretty amazing staying power. its in that rarefied space where the "revival" has lasted longer than the original thing did, at which point we begin to wonder if its not a revival at all and maybe the whole thing's just immortal
new (free) post:

i just wrote a weird little review of the first Dismemberment Plan album, a literary noise pop masterpiece that i highly recommend to fans of Bob Dylan, Ramshackle Glory, Pavement, and... Raymond Chandler?

double nickels is literally the best guitar album of the 80s. better than any shred or metal album (and the guy ran 012s. monstrous.)
the second best double album of the 80s (after Double Nickels on the Dime of course)
a top 3: Sinawe's *Heavy Metal Sinawe*, Baekdoosan's *Too Fast! Too Loud! Too Heavy!, Boohwal's *Rock Will Never Die*
