When trying to sleep with the sound of the storm or when a storm is only in my head, I try to return my mind to the peace of the tent after walking all day. Deep in the forested mountains of the Vercors. Falling asleep to the soundtrack of owls & animals of the night. My own Innisfree.

The stone remembers the sea. And through its lens - a world of deepest blues. Dawn only a suggestion, a smudge of pewter where clouds bruise sky.

This is the old gate, the arch of ruined rock, framing the eternal watch of the beacon, the silent, sleeping bay, and the slow, patient leaching of light

The whip-poor-will has sent abroad her song
From depths of anguish and from heights of bliss."

No surprise in an Island that has stages of its National Footpaths on narrow roads with no pavement & no speed limit! And where so many measure their sense of self-worth by size & speed of their SUV. #IsleofMan www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of...

Coming back this year, we stayed in a Travelodge near Carlisle, ahead of the next day's ferry. In morning we found M6 closed 1/2 mile north of the service station. We had 20 miles southbound without seeing another vehicle.

Only a dozen apples on our little cordon. But a good weight.
Oystercatchers & Galloway hills. The Isle of Man is nearer Scotland than Brexitland, Wales or Ireland. There used to be a ferry to Scotland (Ardrossan) but now we have to use England's back door, Heysham, turn left & make a dash for the Scottish border.

Private Eye doing an excellent job of predicting the forthcoming budget headlines in each paper… showing just how ridiculous they can all be.
Top prizes - *of course* - to the Telegraph, Mail, Times and Express.

20 years ago people said the Green Party was cloud cuckoo for wanting renewables. Now renewables produce over 50% of UK electricity and soon it will be 100%. Other parties always mock the Green Party before eventually adopting their polices. Because it is full of smart caring people.

I have added green yarn to Etsy.
My sheep's wool dyed with goldenrod and indigo.
Unfortunately I still can't ship to the US, but if you are anywhere else in the world I would love to send you some green yarn 🌿🌿🌿

Pink, moon. On calm nights, the evening offshore breeze brings the smells of the restaurant, particularly distressing if I have gone fishing before my tea. #IsleofMan

Back from The Great Vodafone Outage of October 2025. I was on the verge of taking a photo of my dinner and showing it to strangers in the street.
