it feels harsh to say out loud, but ur own self-loathing is far more likely to make other people loathe being around you than anything you feel is "bad" or "cringe" or "embarrassing". learn to love yourself unabashedly. not only will people react more strongly, but you yourself will feel better.

the moment you start living true to yourself and reject the need for universal, unconditional (!) external validation is the moment you'll not only find yourself a happier person but also more capable of caring for others. it really is true!
axegrembroe.bsky.social
it's not going to be that bad! even if people reject you for being genuine with them, I promise someone out there's going to care for you without you needing to cry and beg for help. but obsessively trying to please others and demand them to please you in turn quickly turns into something grotesque

lrp on the topic, in my personal experience, a lot of people consciously or unconsciously self-deprecate because it's a means for them to try and force other people into giving them attention and soothe their ego bc they lack the desire or confidence to simply be genuine no matter the consequence

saying things like "no one likes me" or "i dont have any friends" or "i wish people paid attention to me" -- it tend to, in my experience, highlight the fact that whoever says them values their social image & a sense of popularity over meaningful connection and engagement.

lrp is said so well but i also find that kind of constant self-deprecating behavior to be very disrespectful to the people who do care about someone & put the effort in to show that. often times when people on social media complain of their social standing --

you prove nothing by self-deprecating, other than that you are parroting the cruelty around you.

lrp adding onto my two cents... learning to love yourself is a radical act in a world that's exceptionally volatile and cruel right now

I get wanting to be "unique", especially with some of the limits of XIV's character creator for body types and faces, but making a character you like and enjoy the design and story of is much more of a priority then uniqueness to me. And pursuing that could just lead to an extremely busy design.

There's a post going around about originality with OCs in XIV and to anyone worried about it at all, don't be.

Probably not a surprising opinion who ships his WoL with the basic Mii character twice with Meteor and Ardbert, but I like to approach it like the 'holy shit two cakes' image

lrp very important addendum, "learn to laugh at yourself" does not mean "relentlessly self-deprecate". a person that can accept their own foibles with grace is charming. a person that is always putting themselves down is exhausting

These things are all addressed in the canon divergent WoL AU (that only exists in my head), and balanced out with the rest of the cast that exists in it. It's important to me that each character has their own unique perspective that gives them moments to stand out or shine

For clarification on Venat, he understands this is the only way she saw to achieve a new beginning for the world, free of the influences of the Ancients, and he actually likes and respects her a lot, but refuses to acknowledge her as anything but the final enemy she set herself up to be
axegrembroe.bsky.social
Despite seeing Venat and Zenos as enemies in their own right, he also cannot help but respect her aims (Venat) or feel some amount of pity for the person he could never be (Zenos). Unlike with many other WoLs, the foil between them is very much real and not as surface-level as is presented in-game
axegrembroe.bsky.social
A rule his character abides by, however, is that he might have a more favorable or at least complex relationship with individual people who, in the end, are also subjected to the same (he bears no dislike for Haurchefant, for instance) or seek to change or overcome these things
axegrembroe.bsky.social
In general, Rusty's a lot more biased and as a character (due to to not being a blank slate protagonist exclusively shaped by in-story events), though his negative biases are not unjustified as they're largely informed by his trauma inflicted by systemic injustices and cruelty

- being on good terms with the fortemps, nevermind feeling comfortable as their ward
- having a non-scorched earth relationship with fyrgeiss and lolorito
- having respect for the ancients as a whole
- being willing to aid garlemald, let alone tolerate the existence of a garlean state

#wolqotd Has there ever been a stand out moment in game where there was something said/assumption made to your wol/oc that is fitting to the base the wol should be that was just laughably wrong? Not just “they wouldn’t say that” but “you would NEVER say that about them”

My full spread for A Roam Reborn, a #FFXIV travel zine! Kugane Tower ⛩️
A digital painting featuring Yugiri Mistwalker from Final Fantasy XIV standing with her back turned to the viewer, outstretching her arm for a falcon that is about to perch as she stands on a tiled rooftop in the city of Kugane. Across from her is Kugane Tower, a massive wooden structure that touches the clouds. Other birds seem to be flocking to the tower as they soar across the orange sunset.
