hi! i wrote something for @rewirenewsgroup.com’s campus dispatch about student worker unions and repro justice!

it would make me very happy if you could read it and let me know what you think or, the greatest sign it was good: share it with others!

my spouse just finished their swearing in ceremony to become a citizen and the judge was so lovely and kind and it did bring a tear to my eye until the other 50% of the ceremony which tells people that when required they may need to take up arms against people domestically or abroad

As access to contraception spread it changed our world – making it newly possible for more women to build prestigious careers and civic lives. I've spent my career carefully contributing to the evidence of this amazing, messy process. So I know that it has done a lot of good and this will hurt many.
They’ve RIF’d the DHHS Office of Population Affairs, which overseas the Title X program funding contraception for low-income women.

this is also true of graduate school applications to this day
I think a lot of people don’t realize how insanely pervasive and coercive the early 2010s “the only way to make it as a young writer is to publish insanely confessional, raw online essays about your darkest secrets and trauma” culture was.

@nlgchicago.bsky.social is trying to raise $10k to fund ongoing legal support for protesters. They've had to cover long shifts at Broadview, and their volunteers have been repeatedly assaulted by police in the process. More info with ways to donate here: instagram.com/p/DP36ITJja-W/
i have straight up skipped the “i should drop and start a bakery” part of the PhD and circled back to “i should go to law school”

Paid sick leave laws help workers access health care, with the strongest positive effects for employees in construction, retail, and service jobs (industries that have historically lacked this basic benefit). #WorkersRights #PaidSickDays

NEW: The federal health office that runs the Title X family planning program was wiped out on Friday, but workers there remained in the dark until today because layoff notices were sent to email accounts they had already been locked out of.

Remember when the Trump administration pledged to increase federal support for IVF and reduce costs? Well, as @notus.com reports, the administration "appears to have fired all but one person" from the office that oversees all federal family-planning initiatives. www.notus.org/health-scien...
HHS Appears to be Cutting Its Entire Family Planning Office
Almost every member of the Office of Population Affairs lost email access and is unable to tell if they were laid off, workers told NOTUS.

California just banned employers from forcing workers to pay a debt, fee, or penalty to leave their job.

Bosses have increasingly been trapping workers with debts incurred in training and other exploitative fees.

Now that's illegal in the nation's biggest state.

Per CDC source: At internal leadership meeting this afternoon, it was shared that 1,257 people were RIF'd at CDC. Number may not be final. Apparently, chief of staff was unaware that RIFs were going to occur so not clear who is making decisions. (Short 🧵)
