For #BirdOfTheDay, this is an Orange-Crowned warbler #thinking about where to launch itself next. 🪶
Good until the last drop!

And it’s not exactly the bluest blue either 😆
Kestrels win for flashiest raptor, imo. Their colors are stunning!

Great capture! The look of intensity on the hawk's face says it all.
For the #BirdofTheDay theme of raptors, I'd like to share one of my favorite bird encounters from this past spring. I was surprised by a Barred Owl landing near my spot in the woods, and then the owl then launched itself at a small rodent below. And yes, it was scarily quiet at close range! 🪶
Blue-headed Vireo are some of my favorite birds of the fall migration. I was glad to catch this guy hanging out with a flock of warblers. #birds
Ruby-crowned cuteness remains undefeated, I see 😀
I feel like vulture’s wingspans are under appreciated since they spend so much of their time high above the ground. Seeing them perched is a completely different experience!
It really was! Fortunately, he was quite curious about me and my camera, so we watched each other for awhile. One of my favorite kinds of bird encounters.
They are lovely little guys!
This juvenile Turkey Vulture seemed unsure how to coordinate his awkwardly gigantic feet and wings while preening. Being a teenager is rough for both humans and #birds!

🤨 Turkey Vultures lack a syrinx! Their vocalizations are restricted to basic hisses, grunts, and whines... producing their low, nasal whine while flying. The wife and I had never heard the flying whine until recently up in the Hualapai Mtns. Trippy.

🕉️ Now you know. 🤘

Despite how common they are in my area, Hairy Woodpeckers can be oddly elusive and shy. So it's extra special when you find one who is willing to pose out in the open. #naturephotography #birds

A rare visitor to Massachusetts, only the 2nd time this species has been reported in the state.

I feel that Cedar Waxwings are always full of #character, and this Cedar Waxwing, puffed up in the rain, was no exception. #birdoftheday 🪶
