She acted like a journalist's job was to do her PR when the journalist was completely in line and appropriate. No, we do not need more politicians throwing their (real or perceived) power around and punching down. Sheesh, no. Men should be held accountable too.

Instead of "stupid," you can use: ridiculous, outrageous, silly, wrong, ludicrous, careless, brazen, corrupt, immoral, incompetent, reckless, foolish, ignorant, confusing, mistaken, misguided, banal, fatuous, unwise, uninformed, oblivious, naive.

Accurate naming guides effective response.

Low intelligence or slowness is not a moral fault. Lying is.

Let's be accurate.
arthistory.bsky.social
"Stupid" means low intelligence or slowness of thought. Naw, we recognize immediately the disingenuous lies of the Supreme Court, the politicians, the lies at congressional hearings. It's not a perceptual problem.

The news needs to be able to call a lie a lie. Then we need consequences for lying.
arthistory.bsky.social
A note on "stupid." Many are expressing dismay by saying things like 'we live in stupid times.' The dismay is accurate, but we don't live in "stupid" times. We live in permissive times.

We are letting people get away with things we all know are lies. Calling it "stupid" is giving them a pass.

All the talented journalists out of jobs through no fault of their own and all the readers bereft of their work for want of a platform free of interference.

Jail voting soared in Colorado after the state implemented a first-in-the-nation mandate requiring polling places in county lockups, forcing officials to expand access despite their claims that ballots were already available.

Local officials had claimed they were already giving detained people ballot access, but the first-in-the-nation mandate forced their hands and increased turnout across the state.

On Indigenous Peoples Day, here’s an image that gets to the point.

Native woman in traditional attire lies tied on train tracks with a large ceramic vessel resting on her stomach. She is in foreground and the train tracks stretch far behind her. Black and white photo.

This is not an image of self harm @moderation.bsky.app. This is a photograph by artist Cara Romero of an indigenous person harmed by oil but there is no graphic physical violence.

While I was at Fort Point for the "Black Gold: Stories Untold" exhibition that has been closed due to the federal government shut down, I wondered if, how long, we'll be able to tell factual Black U.S. history in government spaces. Open this weekend thanks to Golden Gate National Conservancy & NPS.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Suzanne Jackson’s retrospective at SFMOMA is a forest of paintings. Got to love those hanging acrylics

Letha Ch'ien on Suzanne Jackson (excellence on both counts):

"SFMOMA has dedicated a generous amount of gallery space to more of these floating unmounted paintings than I’d dared hope to see in one place. ... Standing next to them lifts gravity; one’s body lightens."
