As architects, preparing to record your CPD with ARB for 2025, remember the two mandatory topics: Fire & Life Safety, and Environmental Sustainability.
We have published guidelines intended to support professional development at any stage of a career.
We were delighted to host the Architects Council of Europe and European Network of Architects Competent Authorities this week to discuss collaboration with countries and ensuring high professional standards and maintaining the integrity of registers.
For architects, CPD helps to maintain and develop professional competence.
To retain registration, architects must record their CPD activities and be able to demonstrate what competencies they have developed and how these improve their practice.
Our CPD scheme allows architects to concentrate on the areas they want to develop. The scheme aims to improve architects’ eligibility to practice in an increasingly regulated area of building safety, raise competence and increase public confidence in the profession.
Our Architects Code has been in effect since last week, it sets out key standards to ensure architects maintain professionalism and uphold public trust. It explains in clear terms the behaviours and high standards that all architects are expected to meet.
Our team had a roundtable in Glasgow discussing the Scottish context for architecture with learning providers and employers also joined by Sandy Robinson, Scottish Government Chief Architect, Tamsie Thomson, and Gordon Murray.
Thanks to all who attended and contributed to the insightful discussion.
If you’re recording your CPD with RIBA, you don’t also need to re-enter it into MyARB.
When paying your retention fee for 2026 at the end of the year, all you need to do is sign the CPD declaration to say that you have recorded your CPD with RIBA.
The new Architects Code comes into effect on 1 September. Alongside the six Standards, the Code is supported with guidance on the issues architects ask about most, including:
➖ Dealing with complaints ➖ Professional indemnity insurance ➖ Terms of Engagement
The new Architects Code comes into effect on 1 September.
At its heart are six clear Standards: Honesty and integrity, Public interest, Competence, Professional practice, Communication and collaboration, and Respect.
In 2024, we had international agreements in place with five counterpart regulators. These agreements make it quicker and easier for eligible UK architects to have their qualifications recognised in countries such as the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
Every UK architect is required to undertake and record CPD - regardless of where they practice, what stage of their career they are at, or what field they work in.
🗓️ Our consultation on draft guidance for the new Architects Code closes 31 July. Don’t miss your chance to shape clear, practical guidance that supports architects and protects the public.
