Hi new followers! I'm a lapsed academic/journalist who can mostly be found talking about conspiracy theories, anti-feminism and the far right on the QAA podcast. My specialism is in digital politics, but I like talking about the history of these ideas too.

Not that I've seen, but as I understand it is much much more difficult to legally homeschool here. There is one illegal place im aware of and hoping to report on when the times right but looking to get this series out first!

For sure, this is kind of why I tried to stay away from this sphere as long as possible. The mums I knew who were on tiktok or instagram were bringing up these intense conflicts about parenting and debates id never even heard of

It's true, but I think lots of people don't see it that way. social media has really become woven into the fabric of our lives in such a way that I think people sincerely struggle to imagine life without it!

Yes, I'm pretty low-judgement of what other parents do BUT the one thing that actually gives me a weird feeling in my stomach is exposing your kid to social media. I take way too many pics and videos of my son but at least he knows they're going to grandma, not millions of faceless strangers

Struggle to know whether it's just a pose (did you *really* get "shamed" for staying a size 6 after having 3 kids?) or a reflection of what motherhood feels like in the social media panopticon, where you reliably will find ppl v definitively stating that whatever choice you make is selfish and cruel

Like nearly every visual post is centred around defiance against some disembodied judgemental other, shaming you, the mother for co-sleeping, breastfeeding, having kids too young, or babywearing until they're 7.

Ive consciously avoided a lot of mum-oriented social media, bc it feels like a neuroticism machine and I have the self awareness to know I don't need that, but I can't really avoid it for this tradwives miniseries I'm working on. It's really striking to me how much of it is centred around grievance

It helps that unlike a lot of that set he has a real way with words. Like "there are cathedrals everywhere for those with eyes to see" attached to a closeup of an evian bottle is such an alltimer post for me lol. Or the time he said antifa wanted "revenge against god for the crime of being"

I know he was once considered a real threat but Jordan Peterson's King Lear story arc where he gets visibly frailer with every public appearance while his daughter very obviously slowly poisons him is kind of iconic...

I always thought the eldest daughter thing came from large families where they often have an informal role of junior mother. Didn't know us eldest of 2s got to claim that!
