I was unaware of that, I just knew of Romneycare. But I never understood needing a step towards Medicare for All, it has always been the simpler solution to me. We would just expand existing infrastructure and it would eliminate the inefficiency of profit.

But two years later, they haven't — and MA has collected $5.7B for infrastructure and public education.

Sale meat, dried beans, rice, home baked bread. If you have a small butcher shop nearby, they might give you bones for free or cheap (stock, marrow). Talk to people who've been poor their whole lives, they'll have ideas. I've been trying to keep dinner to less than $10 and I've still eaten OK.

When there is a critical mass of corporate dems, they can effectively ignore the progressive wing and progressives will go along to get along. The ACA was an improvement, it achieved some of the stated goals, but it was a stopgap to prevent real progress. To me, it is iconic neoliberalism.

It was, more or less, a plan from Mass. but there was almost no Republican support, hell Romney took years to even admit it was his plan that Dems reused. The problem is that it doesn't need to be all of them, some Dems don't take AIPAC money, but they will still vote on the party line, same effect.

I don't even think it was about reaching across the aisle, more that both sides loves getting donations from insurance companies, who were the biggest winners by far.

Maybe we should normalize politicians releasing their own dirty laundry. The political landscape will be wild if we follow old patterns with the new access to information social media provides. Releasing your own shit at least allows you to control timing and initial framing. It is also just honest.

Y'all know that we wouldn't even have the problem of insurance premiums doubling if we just went with Medicare for All. Of course we should fight for the subsidies until we get a better system, but the ACA is still trash, it just happens to be better than what it replaced.

We are seeing the dem establishment double down on Israel and AIPAC, on neoliberalism, and on pro-corporate candidates, again. They are not going to be moved by the will of the people, so we need to move them out of office. Centrists have lost 2/3 times against Trump, and we deserve better.

Big tech advertises their brands as if they are necessary. Yet, their infrastructure depends on Free/Open Software.

This is a business model that young spoiled rich kids are taught in school: "Privatize the gains, socialize the costs". They learn to prey on society, those who produce value.
