Today is the centenary of the birth of the great Tony Hart who opened the eyes of generations to visual art and who is forever associated with this, the shimmering Gallery theme from Vision On – which was also pretty much everyone’s introduction to the vibraphone. youtu.be/-ZNkJXKV7_w

I think I'm going with Agyneta rurestris for this. The sharks fin on top makes it not much else.
andydouglas1967.bsky.social
Araeoncus humilis - not one I need to look up anymore - an almost baroque palp. But there's a funny, I think, Agyneta, but I can't get a good look or a good photo stack. Best I can do below, but will go back to it. I need to get some of the Garnier gel again - stick with what you know.

Yes - I was a bit more selective with what I bought home today, but have ticked off a few not-rarities that I somehow haven't seen before. Like P.gibbum, and Zygiella atrica. A few things still to id. Thanatus striatus was nice though - can't recall if I've had that there, or from elsewhere.
andydouglas1967.bsky.social
Do do do the funky gibbum. Pholcomma gibbum. I don't think I've seen this before either.
Epigyne of Pholcomma gibbum Typical eyes of Pholcomma gibbum

I think this is Ozyptila atomaria - not one I've seen before. Vacc'ed from heather/grass.

Really awesome to see an adult male of the rare Glyphesis servulus in Cambridgeshire recently. A right whopper at 1mm! 😁 @britishspiders.bsky.social @cofnod.org.uk @graemelyons.bsky.social @chalkspring.bsky.social

Yes - my pond is in such disarray you can't see it or find it, but I know they're probably using what's left of it, although I only ever see them away from the pond. Used to dig about a bit more so saw them regularly, but stopped that a few years ago. Nice to see though.

The ones I grew last year weren't pollinated - lots of flowers, no fruit. This year, I grew more plants, and there were lots of fruit but not many of them filled out the shell, remaining small and darker green. Some were ok though. I used them all, anyway. My polytunnel isn't very sunny though.

That's what I thought. These are ready for the compost - I've eaten some and processed some, but they never really ripened. Might stick to tinned ones in future.

Here’s some tomatillo flaars for comparison - doesn’t smell like tomatoes either.

Shoutout to one of my fave tweets ever of all time
Martin Leahy tweets:

“There was a bus going through Béal na Bláth once and the bus driver announced to the passengers, 'This is where Michael Collins died' and someone on the bus said 'Tis a bad bend alright'.”

I have just ordered some Red Flags from Amazon. To mark places to avoid, like the newt site. They come in blue and yellow as well, it seems.
andydouglas1967.bsky.social
Oh that would be great - thank you. They should still be good - even off the tree they last a week or two or more.
andydouglas1967.bsky.social
Dismantling the make shift BBQ and came across these two Newts. Not seen any in ages.

I was going to come to the Sweet Briars recording day next Saturday, so that's an option. All these places are so far away I need an excuse - hence surveying at Ringstead so I can visit Drove Orchard. I still can't understand why people don't use them, though - such magnificent things.
andydouglas1967.bsky.social
I might try and survey at Ringstead Downs in the week so I can pop in to Drove Orchard - hopefully they'll have some in the shop there.

Went to the market to buy quinces, but the usual stall holders have retired, so instead of lovely local stuff and boxes of quinces, it's a large pile of asparagus and peaches. So depressing. Landimores said they wouldn't stock them as no one wants them.

1½ minutes worth of Brown Creeper lad, creeping 🥹

I'd seen a grand total of one (1) adult male Attidops cinctipes before this afternoon, in which I lost count at a dozen 🤎

Mark Telfer and I only went and refound Aulonia albimana on the Isle of Wight two days ago! Quite possibly the best spider find of my life! Lots of other records too. analternativenaturalhistoryofsussex.blogspot.com/2025/10/whit...
