gave a brief talk to a "Climate Reporting on TikTok & Instagram" class at GWU about how we approach science (and occasionally climate) communication on Reactions. Really interesting concept for a class and a great group of students coming to it from different majors, areas of interest, etc.

Yesterday in the time it took for me to drop my son off at daycare (<5 mins) ICE showed up, kidnapped one of my neighbors, and left. I only saw them leaving the neighborhood.

They are quite purposefully less visible. Stops and arrests are happening in under 10 minutes mostly. They have been targeting construction crews and work vans, and are overwhelmingly focused in Wards 1 and 4. Here’s a video I took of FBI, CBP, HSI, and others with MPD in Petworth about 2 weeks ago.

the spectacle as a deescalating tactic, absent anything to deescalate, can easily devolve into stuntery and cosplay: nothing materially impacted, but people pat themselves on the back for the sweat from dancing around for a couple hours, as if they had done something other than tire themselves out.

Fund manager and former Morgan Stanley investor Ruchir Sharma warned in a recent piece for the Financial Times that the US economy has turned into “one big bet on AI.”

“AI companies have accounted for 80 per cent of the gains in US stocks so far in 2025,” he wrote. “That is helping to fund and drive US growth, as the AI-driven stock market draws in money from all over the world, and feeds a boom in consumer spending by the rich.”

Findings In this population-based study, models without sibling controls identified marginally increased risks of autism and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) associated with acetaminophen use during pregnancy. However, analyses of matched full sibling pairs found no evidence of increased risk of autism (hazard ratio, 0.98), ADHD (hazard ratio, 0.98), or intellectual disability (hazard ratio, 1.01) associated with acetaminophen use.

Meaning Acetaminophen use during pregnancy was not associated with children’s risk of autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability in sibling control analyses. This suggests that associations observed in other models may have been attributable to confounding.

I made an experimental astrophotography timelapse dance film mainly just to see if it was possible. We had two dancers doing an all night shoot in the eastern slopes of the Cascades, holding poses for 15 seconds, moving a tiny bit for the next frame, and holding again for 15 seconds.
