My latest for @theappeal.org:

James Carver spent 36 years in prison after he was convicted of setting one of the deadliest fires in #Massachusetts history. But after reviewing new scientific evidence, a judge set him free.

“They took my life away for nothing,” Carver said.

The #Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court rules that a person can claim self-defense when charged with murder for killing an innocent bystander but it will not necessarily shield them from being convicted of involuntary manslaughter based on wanton or reckless conduct.

“A major real estate company is installing AI-powered license plate readers on the border of #Brookline and #Boston and giving police access to that data. … #Massachusetts and Rhode Island are the only two New England states without laws regulating the use of license plate recognition systems.”
Brookline to vote on accessing data from privately installed AI-powered license plate readers
The Brookline Select Board is tentatively planning on a vote later this month to decide if the town will sign agreement to access the data from Flock Safety.

You can still access the Boston Globe text archive via the Boston Public Library's website, but now it only goes back to 2008.

That's basically useless to me as I primarily used it to research stuff that happened in the 80s and 90s.

Trump's funding cuts to libraries make it harder for people to research stuff. Websites for #Massachusetts libraries used to allow you to look up Boston Globe articles going back to 1980, but libraries recently stopped subscribing to this service due to the cuts.

NEW: Edward “Eddie” Wright spent 41 years in prison after he was convicted of murdering his friend, a crime he said he had nothing to do with.

But on Wednesday, he joined his lawyers and other advocates outside the #Massachusetts State House to call for an end to wrongful convictions.

The United States has no obligation to host foreigners who wish death on Americans.
The State Department continues to identify visa holders who celebrated the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk. Here are just a few examples of aliens who are no longer welcome in the U.S.:

Under my Standing Authorities as Commander-in-Chief, this morning, the Secretary of War, ordered a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel affiliated with a Designated Terrorist Organization (DTO) conducting narcotrafficking in the USSOUTHCOM area of responsibility — just off the Coast of Venezuela. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was trafficking narcotics, was associated with illicit narcoterrorist networks, and was transiting along a known DTO route. The strike was conducted in International Waters, and six male narcoterrorists aboard the vessel were killed in the strike. No U.S. Forces were harmed. Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!!!!

I've said this before, but one of the more striking things about the current generation of righties is that they really show no sign of understanding that there's a world *beyond* their screens, beyond owning & being owned on social media. A real world, with real people & real problems.

McGee got out of the probation office at 12:07. He hugged his mother, one of his lawyers, and his fiancee, then a cavalcade of other supporters.

He exited the courthouse at 12:12, spoke to a crowd of 40+ supporters, and hugged even more people. I don't think I've ever seen so many hugs before.
