Thread on solving the 90-in-180 day problem 🧵

The solutions to the 90-in-180 day problem are many and varied. Politicians really have **no** excuse for inaction.

Any of the following provide models for solutions or are solutions in themselves…

Are you tired of feeling like an outsider when you travel in Europe?

Isn’t it time we fixed things?

It’s just othering and barely any different to people who say they don’t like immigrants

I sense the EU would prefer an even more liberal arrangement for youth mobility in reality.

…For everyone actually not just “youth”.

I'm not sure Niall wants good things tbh. In his world British citizens basically belong in Brexit purgatory whatever their actual beliefs about Europe. God forbid individuals have agency if they're from the UK.

Yeah. I’m used to them. They only want us to stop and give up.

Norway, Switzerland, Iceland didn't join the EU

Because she’s probably a fake account.

Or if real, psychologically traumatised by Brexit and the response is self flagellation.

Julie can be relied upon to dampen enthusiasm.

Rubbish. Europeans have interest in the UK too. They have family and lives here. As we have family and lives in their countries.

But back to my question, is it good to make EU citizens complete ETA just to visit another European country? I don't think it is.
andrewhesselden.bsky.social
So if they don’t understand why keep beating us up about it? Did you understand? I certainly did. We don’t deserve this.
andrewhesselden.bsky.social
Not undesirable aliens again Julie? Brits are not undesirable.
andrewhesselden.bsky.social
Massively so. Such an easy mutual win. But both “governments” stand to gain from charging citizens and profit from our continued squabbling that leaves them free to do this to us.
andrewhesselden.bsky.social
So why are you so negative about the UK and prospect of change? That’s self flagellation.

I’ve not given up yet. I’m not dead yet.
andrewhesselden.bsky.social
Oh that’s a silly comment Julie. Just disparaging the UK.
andrewhesselden.bsky.social
Again you’re personifying the UK. It’s not a person. It’s not a hive mind.
andrewhesselden.bsky.social
For sure. That’s what’s needed.
andrewhesselden.bsky.social
Kind of. Although it is their border.
andrewhesselden.bsky.social
Again 👏
jonnyhibberd.bsky.social
At some point though we need to stop obsessing over the past and start talking about what's best for Europe as a whole going forward
andrewhesselden.bsky.social
Oh yes. 👏

I don't think anyone's misled here. It's a faux crusade that's really about gloating at people that don't have an EU passport, and an obsession with forcing collective responsibility onto people who had nothing to do with Brexit, and projecting a stereotype onto anyone from the UK. Nothing deeper.
