Might be a repeat, but on behalf of all the #FreelanceFriends community, many many THANKS to Devon // @devonellington.bsky.social for hosting today. Insightful, witty and packed with great information. We are so lucky to have you with us. THANK YOU!!
We're a bit cliquish here, it seems. Or that's what it feels like at times. The born, raised and stayed crowd is strong and hard to penetrate if you're not one of them. Makes me wish I was in just a bit bigger town - fresh blood and thoughts and all.
#FreelanceFriends
Same here. Might be a regional thing or something with a smaller town.

We're kinda glad that our teams are out of it. But it should be a really good match up. Padres/Red Sox are our go to teams, so we've seen a bunch of both pennant champs.

I see this all the TIME. And folks who push to update their content by going clean slate annoy me. Keep that body of work available. Business is cyclical and people are in different places than you. I could do a whole rant on this, but will spare #FreelanceFriends today.
So moved.

#FreelanceFriends - all in favor say "aye"...
Oh, I do love that hashtag. Petition to bring that around again soon? #FreelanceFriends #AddingTheSnark
Thank you. It's reminders like this that make this group so special.

#FreelanceFriends
I love when small businesses call out folks for trying that. The influencers wanting "free stuff" and companies/brands wanting free labor or spec work. It's one of my favorite things to see on social media. Especially when served cold and spicy.

Daylight Savings is ending soon. Maybe that will get him back on track. 😁👍🤣

#FreelanceFriends
Hmmm.... that sounds like an income stream in the making!

#FreelanceFriends
I'll tell then you said that - later. I currently am not speaking to Moe. He's on my s*** list for running over Sylvie.

#FreelanceFriends
When I slowed down design work when I was teaching, I let that lapse. Too much on my plate at that time. In hindsight, that was probably a mistake.

#FreelanceFriends
And I TOTALLY missed the emoji.

It's been a week here, friend. I'm running on caffeine and pure spite today.

#FreelanceFriends
Not at all. It's hard to be snarky these days because of *all-the-things*. I miss having a world where satire +humor were more available and people were in better places and states of mind. It's really rough out there and looks to be getting worse in 2026. Esp for freelancers. #FreelanceFriends
PITA tax - "Pain In The [bleep]". That little (nor not so little extra) increase in rates for people who require extra time/attention. Helps ensure you make what you need to from more demanding clients.

#FreelanceFriends
Just as soon as my creditors have a payment button for "exposure dollars", I'll be sending some their way. But so far - no luck. 😁

#FreelanceFriends
They also let you add some PITA tax for projects that look like they'll be troublesome. 😉

#FreelanceFriends
Very thankful BlueSky doesn't have the "red pen" feature. Pretty sure a couple folks would be have a go at my work here today.

#FreelanceFriends
And lots of get well wishes from everyone here.

#FreelanceFriends
They used to WAY more often when web design wasn't as DIY as it is now. With all the tools, anyone can post a website and have it be good enough for them. Honestly, it's made the work so much less fun competing with WYSIWIG apps.
#FreelanceFriends
a2) This comes up all the time with website design - post rates or not to post rates. Quotes can be easy ($/job or word count) or really individual - like an individual website. I usually recommend "Starting from..." language. Helps weed out looky-loos and keeps pricing flexible.
#FreelanceFriends
Q2: Do you list rates on your website or negotiate projects separately? Why? AND How far ahead do you generally book assignments? #FreelanceFriends
