This is unthinkable, but here I am thinking it:

If Trump gave an order to invade Canada, he would be triggering NATO Article V against the United States itself. So the only constitutional response by those officers to such an order is to treat it as an immediate, irrevocable resignation from him.

Like, remember when that Ron DeSantis staffer featured a Sonnenrad in a campaign video? He was later hired by literal white supremacist Eric Schmitt.

This is a fucking scandal but the mainstream press continues to pretend racism is just a difference of opinion.

My *hopeful hunch* is that they’ve realized they’ve realized this is too big of a story to ignore, but I’m worried they treat this as a one-off story instead of the ongoing scandal it is.

See also: the grown adult man who put a Sonnenrad in a Ron DeSantis campaign video was hired by Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO), a straight up white nationalist even worse than Hawley.

In the speech, titled "What Is an American," he proclaimed that America is not "a proposition" or a shared set of values, rather it is a country for white people descended from European settlers, whose accomplishments should not be diminished by acknowledging the people that some of them enslaved, the Native Americans they killed, or anyone else denied equal rights at the founding.
Real Americans, in his view, can trace their ancestry to settlers. He frames his German ancestors as real Americans. He doesn't call them "immigrants," of course, instead contrasting them with other immigrants, Native Americans, and the enslaved people who long pre-dated his ancestors' arrival. That requires either astounding ignorance or deliberate obfuscation of the fact that neither Germans nor Catholics were initially considered white or American.
Schmitt dismissed Americans' outrage at the death of George Floyd and valorized
Confederate generals.
Schmitt mocked the idea that "a poem on the Statute of Liberty" or "five words in the Declaration of Independence" define who is an American.

I *personally* don’t care either way.

I’m *worried* that Platner might be another Fetterman, and on balance I might prefer Mills’ record and position, but I just want Collins gone and whoever can do that I’m fine with.

So in 2018 I was part of the Chris Kennedy campaign for Governor, against Pritzker, and I am *so* happy that Pritzker defied my expectations that he’d be a Bloombergian rich guy. He truly, genuinely gets it.
