OKAY BUT MY KIDS NOTICED that he truly doesn't leave the run until hazel comes back 😭😭😭
alixeharrow.bsky.social
amal........this is my kids' ages exactly.....im emotional
I didn't have an age in mind - my children were 9 and 7 when I wrote it though. It seems equally enjoyable by children as by adults though. I think I was more honest about death, yes.

my kids pointed out that he doesn't leave that run until hazel comes back-- until his chIEF RABBIT TOLD HIM TO--we all cried tbh
alixeharrow.bsky.social
i am literally going to greet the kids with this information when they get off the bus (they LOVE rabbit language, which allows them to swear without swearing).

as an aside reading aloud to smart & funny kids is like taking a little craft class. you can physically feel their attention drift and engage, what jokes hit, what pulls them along like a string through the story. those babies will sit through PAGES of botany just to find out if kehaar came back

pleased to report that watership down* still hits. the kids literally woke me up early this morning to finish the final battle scene.

*book not movie, i'm not a monster

ahhhhh thank you so much for reading!!!

and what if the right word is the one that fits the character, voice, time period, and vibe??? rather than the sensibilities of a goodreads reviewer in 2025????

just heard my husband yell "ahha!" from the other room, with the volume and intensity of a cartoon scientist, because he remembered he'd bought cheesesticks today and thus could have a cheesestick
alixeharrow.bsky.social
anyway it's always nice to remember there's only one law in writing, which is to get away with it. anything is legal if you look good doing it!!

the quotes on that original post are wild btw. baby sometimes your opinion is unpopular bc it's dead wrong 😔
alixeharrow.bsky.social
prologues are great, actually. epilogues too! footnotes! epigraphs!! give me a novel with all the bells and whistles!!

Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

Charlottesville City Schools will be hosting a School Resource Officer info hour meeting tonight at CHS from 6-7 PM. For those who want to learn more about the draft MOU & ask questions, this would be a great opportunity to engage with CCS leadership.

frankly this has the energy of the riddler leaving clues for batman. smacks of "why shouldn't i?? they'll never catch me, after all!!!"
alixeharrow.bsky.social
you're stronger than me!!!! thanks for going to both 🫡

but my friend--the under-butler to the Chief Operating Officer of Antifa--was present on the day the Founding Generals first signed the Declaration of Antifa. you should talk to him
alixeharrow.bsky.social
okay everybody call dibs on your antifa title now, so we don't have any repeats! for example i am the secretary of the sister of the Duke of Antifa

"the girlfriend of one of the founders of antifa"

ha, hi!!!! sorry for all the emails!

if this is an issue you care about, i would urge you to vote for Zyahna Bryant and Lisa Torres, and *not* to vote for Emily Dooley. this is an expensive and dangerous policy, adopted without listening to community concerns. so: they'll hear from us at the ballot box 🫡
alixeharrow.bsky.social
if you'd like to hear more about their stances, there's an interview in Cville Tomorrow, and some recent coverage specifically of SROs. it's one of the few concrete policies up for discussion, and one of the few areas you'll find real differences of opinion. www.29news.com/2025/10/07/c...
Candidates for Charlottesville City School Board are split on school resource officers
All four candidates tell 29News that safety is a priority - they just have different ideas of how to get there.
