I don’t like how he doesn’t give the ball to the catcher ever after a foul ball, hogs the throw to the pitcher almost 100%

yeah no argument there. I simply submit that someone smarter than I could calculate that their expected runs in the first inning alone would have been enough to withhold the 3 runs the Mariners scored all game and it wouldn't have mattered how the 2nd-9th inning ABs went.

In the first 6 PAs (ie 1st inning) they had HR, 11 pitch walk, 113mph lineout, walk and 107mph lineout. That really easily could have been a 4 run inning.

Bruce miller is a good pitcher that made a mechanical shift that didn’t really work so he had a rough year and he just needed a lead off hr and 2 walks and two scorched lineouts to settle in nbd, moving on.

Im not qualified for that haha. If it’s 3-0 jays the strategy is different than 2-1, 1-2 or 0-3. I think they like varland in that opener spot for the top of the order, then matchups/figure it out. Think cb/ms/el would all be happy to one out of the pen and give 3- 18 batters as requested though.

I think that's a fair assumption, yeah, and would agree with it.

I'm also like super pro-bullpen game for G4 and would be fine with a lineup-specific pocket for Max to work a handful of batters in a non-mopup role.

Lauer handled this lineup really well (sample size of 1 appearnce) earlier in the season. So did Paxton Schultz, so maybe that's an indictment on the Mariners lineup, but still.
