Research by @dralexpiquero.bsky.social & @johnkroman.bsky.social found that for all racial groups, firearm homicide rates peaked in 2021. Rate for white individuals peaked at 4.3 per 100,000, but rate for Black individuals ages 20-24 was greater than 80 per 100,000 individuals - 18+ times higher

Looking forward to giving congressional testimony on gun violence data infrastructure.

So honored to just learn that I have been inducted into the prestigious Bouchet Honor Society in recognition of achievements as a scholar and embodiment of the values and mission of the Bouchet Society. Thank you to all who’ve invested & supported me in my career.

Five years ago, as the U.S. grappled with COVID, social unrest, and a contentious presidential election, Americans began buying guns in record numbers. Now, that boom appears to be ending.

The Trace’s Chip Brownlee explains why the market might be cooling:
Gun Sales Are Plummeting. Here’s Why
A Trace analysis found that Americans purchased 6.5 million fewer guns last year than in 2020, when the pandemic pushed demand for firearms to record levels.

I was privileged to be at the White House recently as President Biden signed an EO to improve gun violence data. It was nice to spend time w/ him, to thank him for his service, & for appointing me to serve as the Director of the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Honor of a lifetime.

Totally agree, Jeff. That piece should have legs for quite some time!
