I couldn't walk away- we had room, and at first it was just a few...

at the peak, there were 18 cats & 6 puppies- on top of our 4.

it was wild, noisy, smelly and awesome.

fostering is not for everyone, but when it works, there are few things better.

males are more... dominant and dependent on attention- almost insecure in their need for validation; they will seek out attention, then back off as if it's beneath them & fold into it- it's funny!

fems will be standoffish, but once trust is established they become engaged and attached.

that's pretty much how we got started- fell in love with a cat at the shelter, asked what the numbers meant on the crates & were told that's how many days they had left before euthanasia.

"but we're always looking for foster homes..."

the colonies are 3-5 cats, but it varies- each has politics & personalities. I've gotten all the girls fixed, and the boys ain't all that easy to deal with. still 2 that need a clip.

at the end of '10, the shelter we worked with crashed out & we still had 12 cats inside (4 were ours) and kept them happy.

a few there are no more- but they were loved straight through.
