Today it’s important to reflect on balancing our circle of concern with our circle of influence. There are some things beyond our control. And if we spend too much energy focused on those things, we won’t have the energy to make the impact where we are most needed and influential.

You might not have noticed the racism spewed out by young republicans because it didn’t affect you so it was under your radar. But when the republicans used Black people as the scapegoat for what’s wrong with America since the entirety of my conscious life, it was hard for me to miss.

They brought people like Dinesh D’Souza who argued that because he never experienced racism it obviously didn’t exist. And a Black woman who talked about her experience defrauding the welfare system who claimed that since she was doing it OBVIOUSLY everyone did.

You must be remembering differently than I did. I remember the Garfield Republican Club at Williams bringing the guy who wrote the Bell Curve to campus in 95. He said the difference in SAT score distribution proved Black people were intellectually inferior. The study didn’t account for economics.

For those tempted to say Young Republicans have always been this way, they really have not. When I worked on campus and did bipartisan college events after, they were very much not like this.

That’s why groups like YCT and eventually TPUSA formed — because Young Republicans weren’t radical enough.

Well I mean $900 minimum charge. I was like I think it’s just the capacitor. They said yeah we’ll do maintenance service if it’s that simple. That was all I needed to make my mind up to do it myself.

Furnace wasn’t blowing so I called for a quote they wanted 900 just to evaluate. Did a search for the symptoms. Motor was humming but not blowing. Internets said it was most likely the capacitor.

Two days later, I turned a 900 repair into a $10 order on Amazon and voila. We have heat.

Someone recommended Bitter Root as a “if you liked Sinners, Bitter Root contains a similar theme of racism embodied by monsters” the story is great so far. I also recommend in the same theme N.K. Jemisin’s “The City We Became” and “The World We Make” and I’ll always recommend her Broken Earth Saga.

My job as a parent is to nurture and provide a safe environment for my children to learn and grow and make mistakes. Definitely to push them to try their best at everything. And to be honest admit when I’m wrong. I didn’t come into parenthood knowing this but I’m a better parent because I learned it
