WIP Wednesday ft. Namgi banter inspired by the infamous soggy cereal debate

He sucked a deep breath through his teeth. If this was the way Namjoon wanted to play it tonight, Yoongi could give as good as he got. “Have you ever tried to eat dry cereal, Namjoon? It’s disgusting.”

The smile dropped from Namjoon’s face. “Oh, no. Not this again.”

“It tears up your mouth, and you have to chew and chew until it turns into a paste.”

Namjoon hid his head in his arms on the bar. “How many fucking times are we going to have this argument? How many times are you going to torture me with this?”

Yoongi bit his cheek to hold back his smile. “Until you get it, Namjoon. You chew and chew until it turns into a paste made of flour and your own spit–”

“I’ll have you know I have completely given up eating cereal now.” Namjoon lifted his head to glare balefully at Yoongi. “I can’t even go down the cereal aisle. Because of your and your fucking flour spit paste.”

“--but you know what isn’t a paste made of flour and your own spit? You know what’s soft and easy to chew? Cereal that’s gone soggy in milk.”

“So what’s the fucking point of making breakfast cereal at all, then?” Namjoon cried, throwing his hands up in the air. “Why not just make it soft in the first place?”

It took everything in Yoongi to swallow the laugh bubbling up in his throat and keep his face straight and solemn. He shook his head slowly, as though disappointed. “It’s like you don’t even care about the diverse textural preferences of our cereal-eating population,” he said mournfully. Namjoon stared at him, bug-eyed and red, and Yoongi made it another three seconds before he lost control and doubled over laughing.

Namgi bickering = a battle of minds, ragebaiting (esp yg to nj), I will best you no matter what even though we fundamentally agree on this topic

one of the things that separates yoonmin from namgi is that jimin is absolutely and unapologetically determined to dom yoongi, while namjoon is too referential of hyung to fully own wanting to baby him.

all this to say, I adore park jimin and the world is better because he is in it ❤️

Oooh, thank you for such a thorough answer! It doesn't surprise me you're a research-type writer because your writing does have this "in situ" element, where I really believe in the settings you place the characters in.

Also, the paintings live in my mind rent-free. I've always loved that part.

And I think that gives a big look into how they became so close and learnt how to talk to each other. Esp when people started leaving - like Suchwita pointed out, Yoongi is the person who has always been at Joon's side.

Also, I think they simply realised they just liked each other as people!

I think their roles as the hip-hop educators for the group also did a lot for them in directing their energies and making them realise, "ok, this other guy /understands/, he gets it". There's that quote from Joon about Yoongi specifically - all his heroes were my heroes, we were "billboard kids" etc

His bookworm trait is something I treasure 💕 he doesn't act lightly about what he truly cares about, that's for sure.

Also, I want to acknowledge there are mixed responses about the representation in the book from the autism community, just in case you haven't read it and you're intrigued.
