Pleasingly old-school and calming feel to this England game without all the shouty LED ads pulling focus in the background

you do not, under any circumstances, "gotta hand it to corsodyl"

The dirty secret of most white collar work is that you don't actually need 40 hours a week to do it.

However, there's a collective action problem where no one wants to admit that, so people make up stuff to fill a week to justify their existence.

AI efficiencies will just mean more busywork
adjwilson.bsky.social
A good comparison to AI is probably the invention of Microsoft Office.

My first boss worked in PR when it came in, and what took 8 hours before suddenly took 1 hour now.

But who was able to bank the 7 hours' worth of efficiencies? Mostly the clients, and certainly not him
adjwilson.bsky.social
I mean, given what happened to the last two...
adjwilson.bsky.social
*excited to see what, ffs
adjwilson.bsky.social
I think this is making my head spin so will file away for tomorrow when I am fresher, but this does not sound good
adjwilson.bsky.social
I've come to the conclusion that AI is not particularly useful for my job, but is *very* useful for all the busywork I have to do to justify filling a 40 hour week, so I'm very excited what new busywork gets invented to fill that gap

@stephenkb.bsky.social If it's useful to know, I did a legitimate spit-take and just gobbed tea everywhere thanks to the first line of your op-ed this morning
adjwilson.bsky.social
Interesting. I guess if you've ever worked in a large organisation, it's probably obvious that the figurehead won't be the one doing the comms?
adjwilson.bsky.social
Much of this is my fault, but for someone with an English degree I basically managed to skirt doing all the canonical stuff, which is scandalous really.

Finally enjoying getting to them now, and seeing everything that would've totally gone over my head then

Whereas "rich people are knobs and loads of people around me are kinda gay" is extremely relevant to anyone starting undergraduate life!
adjwilson.bsky.social
Theory: the reason literature departments have become more about Marxist and gender theory than actually studying literature is in response to market demand, because the great canonical works are totally wasted on you when you're 19
adjwilson.bsky.social
Liverpool also still extremely popular when they were doing bugger all in the 90s (although, granted, they never got quite as bad)

Hence "Starmer is a Tory" is a dumb political take but a decent comedic premise.

"Starmer is a prisoner of global events and his promise not to raise taxes" is a good political take that is too obscure and nuanced to possibly be made funny.
adjwilson.bsky.social
This is very true, and I think inherently has to be the way. Good comedy simplifies and paints things with a broad brush, whereas good politics involves understanding complex issues and trade-offs...
adjwilson.bsky.social
Not awful for the PM that this appears to have become a meme
adjwilson.bsky.social
But what's the value of that?

All that's happened is people's opinions have changed from "I don't know anything about Saudi Arabia" to "I know a bit about Saudi Arabia and I don't like it".

Great success!
adjwilson.bsky.social
I am once again asking for a shred of evidence that this whole "throw money at sports and entertainment to change the perception of Saudi Arabia" thing is in any way working
adjwilson.bsky.social
[Tiny voice]

I actually think this is good from Starmer. It's the sort of positivity he should have been giving a year ago.

"UNLIMITED RICE PUDDING"
adjwilson.bsky.social
Starmer listing things has the same cadence as a dalek
adjwilson.bsky.social
Feeling quite good about this actually, I think just this one more bit of performative cruelty and all the Reform voters will come back to Labour
adjwilson.bsky.social
We're about a month away from Keir Starmer trying to win back Reform voters by doing a photocall throwing a brick through a corner-shop window
