Guy who I went to high school with is now a HS history teacher.

He decided today to make me laugh my ass off over simping for Christopher Columbus.
“Seen a lot of negative posts about Columbus today. History is pretty messy. But in spite of his flaws, we owe a debt of gratitude to Columbus for one very important reason - the Gospel. He lived in Europe during a time of Islamic domination, specifically, when visiting Spain trying to fund his voyages, he saw the Nasrid Emirate, an Islamic government who refused to allow people to preach the gospels and forced them to pay a tax in order to pray freely. After the final crusade succeeded in removing this barrier to Christianity in Europe, Columbus was only able to convince Isabella of Spain to fund his journey under the presumption that Christianity would grow to new lands. It did, and Christianity has dominated ever since 1492. Without Columbus and the European explorers we villianize today, we very likely would either live in a constant state of tribal warfare and poverty or be under the rule of an expansive Islamic caliphate.”
