Yesterday was a Route 66 day! Attended the opening of The Caldwell Collection at Mustang Field vintage aircraft museum in El Reno (paired with a great burger at Jobe's), checked in at Yukon's Czech festival, then visited with John Hargrove in Arcadia, Oklahoma. The road is never boring!
Stopped by Porsche Studio in NW Portland yesterday and after 2+ years it looks as good as ever! It was nice to see customers socializing in the library and taking advantage of the espresso bar. Also, there was a fantastic 1956 Porsche 356 A on display, built at the Stuttgart factory for racing!
'Rock Around with Ollie Vee' sung by Buddy Holly with Sonny Curtis on electric guitar. First recording session in Nashville for Decca Records at Owen Bradley's Quonset Hut in July 1956.

The 5 acre log pond is still there! Not in the greatest shape, though.
2/2 Sonny saw a young, not yet famous, Elvis with Buddy in Lubbock and was inspired to write the song “Rockin‘ Around with Ollie Vee” (look it up!), as well as the classic “I Fought the Law” and the theme song to the ‘Mary Tyler Moore Show.’ He was a genuinely kind gentleman and will be missed!
1/2 I’m saddened to learn that Sonny Curtis, the great songwriter and musical partner of Buddy Holly & The Crickets passed away today. He was one of the original rockers.

Yeah, there’s a news article on that page that tells about the first time the whistle blew, early 1930s.
@sonofsandor.bsky.social I just went down a huge rabbit hole reading the history of the Medford Corporation and the giant lumber mill (4th largest on the West Coast) that wasn't far from our house on Grand Ave.

No, we don't get TCM. 🙁 Maybe we should.
He followed that song with a story about his first big hit, which he took as a demo tape to a radio station in Lubbock to get its first airplay. The guitar sounds like a Buddy Holly song to me!

That's a fantastic song by Marty.
That night Marty spoke about Buddy Holly, the honor of being on the same stage where Holly once stood, the influence of Holly in his music, and then performed the Holly song 'Well Alright' as a tribute.
