again i am asking why these men (Trump and Vought) want to destroy our country. we had a pandemic five years ago. we should be investing *more* in public health infrastructure.

The entire HR department at the CDC is gone. Everyone at the IRB, which makes sure studies are conducted ethically and rigorously, and the ethics office, which oversee conflicts of interest for CDC leaders and advisory committee members, were also let go.

i used to yearn for the possibility of making gym friends. i met a few people but it didn’t happen in a deeper way. instead i developed a catalogue of mental nicknames for regulars, and constructed fake backstories for a few.

Rogers Park and surrounding neighborhoods were hit hard by immigration enforcement activity over the weekend.

There's no competition here, but I want to name that the same heavy, violent, fast-moving abduction pattern has invaded the southwest side about three times a week for over a month now.

i haven’t seen any other social media develop a stranglehold on people’s reality quite the same way. people who only talk about their twitter drama when you see them in person, people adopting handles as names, and overall the tendency to become gratuitously mean, sarcastic, and glib.

on net everyone i knew irl who became a heavy twitter user (since the beginning) seemed to become a genuinely worse person as a result of it. for me, every bout of heavy twitter usage was tied to an overall increase in anger and misery.

i mean i think moralizing here isn’t necessarily the best approach to understanding. but going back to x for the attention seems like going back to the crack house because you miss the company of your dealer.

ie i get the pain and the longing but maybe there are bigger questions to be asked.
