Final version @science.org "Recent evolution of the developing human intestine affects metabolic and barrier functions". Evolutionary preparation for microbiota, diet, and pathogen exposure is fascinating! Thank you @erc.europa.eu for supporting our vision!

Thank you for the insightful feedback during our last meeting—truly appreciated!
Great work in @nature.com by @qianxuyu.bsky.social from Dr. Chris Walsh lab revealing early specification of the human cortex using spatial omics. Congratulations Xuyu!🎊🎉
Today in @nature.com , we report a spatial single-cell atlas of human cortical development, revealing surprisingly early specification of human cortical layers and areas.
We built an interactive browser to explore the spatial data: walshlab.org/research/cor...

✨ We tend to think of species-specific differences as resulting from the presence of species-specific genes. In our latest work with @djabaudon.bsky.social, we show that building brains is not only about which genes you use, but also about when and where you do.

Thank you, Dr. Boeckx, for highlighting our work ! It’s exciting to see the convergence of our findings, which suggest that lysosome function in neuronal development evolves across species in a spatiotemporal- and cell type-dependent manner, with human lysosomes playing unique roles.
I was struck by the importance of lysosomes in characterizing these human-specific features, @zhoujoeyyi.bsky.social;
this finding links well with our recent work on this pathway, CHD2 and 🧠 maturation (ping @naelnadifkasri-lab.bsky.social @ellylewerissa.bsky.social @olivieroleonardi.bsky.social)
