In short: we need a 360-degree anti-racism, one that confronts antisemitism alongside other forms of racism. And this will mean addressing the question of Palestine and the status and treatment of the Palestinians. 7/8

Our report calls for a new approach to combating antisemitism: one based not on a hierarchy of racisms but on building alliances between Jewish people and other racialised minorities. 6/8
brendanmcgeever.bsky.social
Current approaches to antisemitism at times also serve to racialise other minorities, especially Muslims. We see this in the way Jews are presented as a 'model minority' and antisemitism is cast as a specifically 'Muslim problem', not one embedded in society as a whole. 5/8

These divisions are made worse by the conflation of anti-Zionism and criticism of Israel with antisemitism. 4/8

When the state and political parties put significant resources into combating antisemitic ideas but fail to act with similar force against Islamophobia or structural racism it confirms the perception of a hierarchy of racism. 3/8

Antisemitism is deeply embedded into UK society. Policies to tackle it too often focus on the pathology of individual antisemites and not on the more widely diffused and persistent reservoir of antisemitism that exists in our political culture. 2/8

Our new report on antisemitism has just been published. Co-written with David Feldman (@dmf101.bsky.social) and Ben Gidley (@bengidley.bsky.social), we argue current responses to tackling antisemitism are not working and are detrimental to anti-racist politics. ow.ly/LEp550UFjVP. 1/8
