These ̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶ would have made the best rosé on the planet: Chkhaveri. Trialed extensively in this vineyard, and unique in this region!

On Friday evening every vine and tree on every farm in the village was destroyed by a hailstorm.
Don’t have the heart for follow-up photography. Haven’t even begun to assess the damage. #viticulture 🌱

Update from the Saltwater Farm Vineyard ✨
The Pinot Noir and Siegerrebe are going through veraison, which is the beginning of the grape ripening process. We have started to net the vineyard, to protect the grapes from wasps and birds - they will eat them immediately once ripe!

With grapes having recently gone through veraison, this is one the most sensitive times for winegrapes when it comes to the threat of smoke taint. Pray to the wind gods, if you're so inclined.

Well, it’s been a while since we’ve had any Syrah, and although véraison started out well, the last 10 days of this heatwave has dehydrated them a bit faster than expected. Had to add a spot of water just so we didn’t end up with a +16% abv wine…

Veraison, marks a crucial stage in grape development where berries transition from green to their ripening colors, signaling the start of the ripening process. This phase is characterized by changes in the grapes, including color shifts, softening, increases in sugar,decreases in acidity.

2025 #vintage in process #viticulture in #Loirevalley, #anjou Chenin blanc turn to Veraison since 2 week, early like 2022 and 2020 vintage. Can't wait for #harvest #grape and data ! It smell a great one. We made trials with #kaolinite leafs covering, and #rootstock

It’s hard to believe we are already at veraison! Just a touch of color on the cold hardy hybrid cultivars. We are trying to see if all those winter hardiness traits make the vines more at risk to heat and drought.

Maybe 10% veraison in the Pinot noir with the Ciliegiolo hot on its heels. Ruchè maybe a red grape here and there. The Syrah and Grenache still in distant orbit.
