They do, but unfortunately I do think programming follows a bit of Pareto curve in the sense that there are people who just better at creative problem solving than others, and thus are more effective.

I sat next to a woman on a plane who scrolled Instagram for seven hours. She likely accounted for all of Meta's ad load for the quarter.

It got me thinking about Pareto distributions of ad loads.

(Lindener Pareto).

I once had a boss(a grown man), who would line up animal crackers and pareto to see if there was an equal distribution of the animals in a single serve bag. He was actually a really good boss.

'Trickle Down' is a trick only because most, if not all, enterprises that receive 'Trickle Down' benefits are Pareto Optimal.

Alleviate the Pareto Optimal factor, and 'Trickle Down' should work as advertised, assuming all other socio-economic-political factors are as they should be.

Conversely, that take also obfuscates the Pareto distribution where the 20% most reckless drivers do 80% of the damage.

Apple is so close to a “Pareto” product development suite: Notes (withMarkdown import/export), Reminders (in Kanban view), Freeform, Pixelmator, and tie it all together with Shortcuts.

Native, local, private, lean, and most importantly not reliant on feature bloat for MRR.

The simple explanation comes from trying to renegotiate a "Pareto efficient" deal. Let's say Trump is right and we had signed a bad deal with China in effect.

As an analogy, let's say that you and I had negotiated a deal that splits $100 a year, and I got $70 and you got $30. You want a new deal.

🔥New in IJWF:
Radford et al. introduce a simulation-optimisation framework using neural network metamodels and NSGA-II to create fuel treatment plans that reduce burn probability by up to 284%, this method balances risk reduction and resource use.

Just published a new Power BI tutorial on Pareto Analysis (the 80/20 rule).
Need to find which 20% of products drive 80% of sales? This is how you do it with DAX. I walk through the theory, then build it step-by-step.

The Pareto Principle often gets cited to justify using Postgres for everything, but it's not a universal truth. It can be a "red herring" leading to suboptimal tech choices if not applied carefully to specific needs. #Architecture 2/6

Misuse of the Pareto Principle: https://posts.rsidneysmith.com/2025/10/30/misuse-of-the-pareto-principle.html

Misunderstanding the Pareto Principle often leads to oversimplified time management strategies that falter once one becomes well-organized.

The Pareto-superior frontier is a general phenomenon we observe across model families (Gemma, Qwen), sizes, and datasets, where we can consistently find a better-balanced model. We show Qwen 2.5 results on BBH and MMLU-Pro below. (5/8)

It's NOT a zero-sum game between base and instruct.
We find a "sweet spot" merge that is Pareto-superior: it has HIGHER accuracy than both parents while substantially restoring the calibration lost during alignment. (4/8)

Great book. I highly recommend reading E.E. Evans Pritchard's "Levy-Bruhl's theory of primitive mentality" and "Science and sentiment. An exposition and criticism of the writings of Pareto"
as he has been one of the first anthropologists who deconstructed the primitive/civilized dichotomy.
