#FridayReads I took a break from KING SORROW by Joe Hill to read TESTIMONY OF MUTE THINGS by Lois McMaster Bujold, and now I'm back to Joe, and wow, things went from fun and weird and creepy to absolutely riveting (last night I read most of Book Three, and like I said, wow).

Why won't Henry McMaster call his BFF and tell him to stop this insanity? Congress has already appropriated the funds for SNAP. The money is waiting to be dispersed. Republicans refuse to return to work on orders from a fascist!
‘Extraordinary’ givers wanted. SC seeks donors for $104 million unpaid food benefits
Gov. Henry McMaster asked for “extraordinary” donations to the One SC Fund ahead of November 1, when federal food benefits will likely not be dispersed.

THE CURSE OF CHALION by Lois McMaster Bujold. Kind of a perfectly constructed novel about court intrigues and divine intervention, probably my favorite non-LOTR fantasy novel, and I don't think you need any genre familiarity or knowledge to enjoy it.

SC Dems held a press conference calling for action to protect over 560,000 South Carolinians who could lose SNAP benefits this week. While the GOP stalls and Gov. McMaster tells people to “donate to food banks,” Democrats are demanding leadership. www.facebook.com/share/v/16ZA...

“School boards are far from perfect. Elections often have low voter participation, and boards are sometimes mired in controversy. But the same can be said for any governing body in a democracy,” said Kristina Llewellyn, a McMaster University history professor. 1/18

The whole first act of Mirror Dance is a master class in "how to write a naturally evolving cluster fuck."

Lois McMaster Bujold continues to be a master of the art.

Morning Womble! I'm on the final chapter of The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold, which is excellent. I have read through pretty quickly compared to my usual reading speed. Hopefully see you at WFC next week.

I’m not saying Gov. McMaster is a “good” Republican, but he is a different type of Republican than someone like Nancy Mace or Ralph Norman.

Understanding the differences can be useful.
