I've been reading about AI, and I think we should share definitions so we can talk about it

I plan to do a few of these posts to this end

Def: AI (Artificial Intelligence)

This used to mean actual intelligence, but now refers to Large Language Models (LLMs) which only simulate it

In recent years, the tech industry has been quietly replacing its human workforce with AI. Why pay 20 engineers perfect code, when you can pay 5 engineers using chatGPT to write good enough code. This has touched every facet of the tech industry: design,engineering,HR,QC,etc.

Def: Compute

This is basically a cute way of referring to the hardware needed to train and run LLM generative AI systems

It is different from just saying "computers" because it is both more and less than that

LLMs use mostly graphics card processors and memory as opposed to CPUs

Def: Large Language Model (LLM)

What is now called AI is a series of "weights" that determine how the LLM predicts what happens next either in words or other media like images, video, audio

LLMs are NOT programmed, they are grown, which is why engineers don't know how they work inside

This is the concept regarding AI where we try to gauge whether any given AI's concept of what should or shouldn't be done matches up with our expectations or intentions in creating the AI
