I do hope that Melvyn Bragg’s selection of his favourite #InOurTime is going to include the wonderful table-thumping Industrial Revolution episode where he got very angry at the idea that the IR wasn’t due to clever men in the north having clever ideas.

Echoing Victoria: it was such a privilege to take part in what turned out to be Melvyn's last series of #InOurTime - and it's really flattering to see our episode on George Herbert listed in @thetimes.com top 15 episodes of the show yesterday

I am paying tribute to Melvyn Bragg’s extraordinary achievements in shaping and presenting #InOurTime on The World Tonight BBC Radio 4 (item about 22.30). We all owe him so much.

I fear this is going to be another David Bowie moment… 🫣 #InOurTime
A huge moment -- Melvyn Bragg steps down from In Our Time after over a quarter of a century. What a programme and what a legacy! Just a model for how to make great, clever, engaging radio, and a twenty-seven-year experiment that proves there's a huge global audience for smart, scholarly programming.

Anyway, farewell & thanks, Melvyn Bragg; by osmosis, the most knowledgeable man in the UK. #InOurTime #OutOfTime
End of days. Especially when. #BBCRadio4 replaces it with a 10 minute "from the archives" podcast called "Out of Time", condensing complex subjects worthy of academic discussion to a few soundbites without the hard bits. Just #APointOfView? #YouWait

Melvin Bragg leads a huge cultural legacy. #InOurTime was the one place where you could listen to experts talking about cutting edge of research in your own specialisms and know audiences weren't being patronised.
Mary Beard would be a decent replacement.

Inevitable, I suppose, but #InOurTime won't be quite the same again: what a landmark moment. I feel so lucky to have snuck in at the eleventh hour for his final series. All the best to Melvyn on his retirement, & @simontillotson.bsky.social as he steers the ship into new waters with a new presenter

It was amazing listening for many years to #InOurTime on my journey to work. Facts I cannot retain fascinating to hear specialists respond to his questions.
Just yesterday I caught up with his episode of #thisculturallife - modest & interesting. His voice will be missed. I hope he stays well.

I hope before he goes he presides over an #InOurTime special on Broadcasting the Arts & Humanities, a 20th century democratising undertaking that bravely tries to face up to a cripplingly stupid 21st century.

Lot of insomnia last night. Among other episodes, this kept me company. I couldn't help wondering who is there for the workers now that capitalism is even more established. Where is the equalising force? Legislation/courts? Unions? #InOurTime

Terrific episode of the #BBCradio4 series #InOurTime, about one of the most influential philosophers of mind and body. If you think Merleau-Ponty is a French wine, you need to listen to this. #philosophy #phenomenology www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

Any book collectors here? This is my best find of 2024. It’s the first UK edition of Hemingway’s In Our Time (1926), found in a book sale. Amazing what turns up. No dust jacket but, hey, I’m happy.
