To know a pond is some 30-foot at its deepest, has a surface area of nearly 12 hectacres is thing. To know it has pike another. However, only with a layer of folkloric knowing comes the wisdom and wonder that it's home to a Stay Below. – #CLNolan #FolkloreFriday

Legend is female Druids of the county did not disappear during Roman occupation, but instead melded with the forests to become its Green Ladies, its Moss Maidens. A historian will tell you this is nonsense. A folklorist will merely tell you stories hold impossible truths. - #CLNolan #FolkloreFriday

Rethinking my Mari Llwyd from last year to give her more strength and support with a stronger wire frame. Still need to get the make time down if going to produce to sell but loving her development. Folk horror meets cottage core vibes 🤣 #FolkloreFriday #MariLlwyd #needlefelt

If not for all the wonderful content on the various folklore days of the week, I really doubt I'd stick around on social media. Cheers to #MythologyMonday #WyrdWednesday #FairyTaleTuesday #LegendaryWednesday #FolkloreFriday #Myth&Folklore and others for adding magic & mystery to my days & nights.
a man with a mustache is saying thank you .
Alt: Jack Black in Nacho Libre wearing a cheesy mustache, giving the blooming fake smile with text beneath saying THANK YOU.

It's #folklorefriday and all this month we will be covering tales from Appalachia.
We'll be looking at ghost stories, strange creatures, cursed towns, and even a cryptid or two.
But let's start with some background information about Appalachia itself.

While I develop Curse of Cards, it'd be nice to share some real-world #FolkloreFriday tidbits about the Creature cards I'm putting in the game when I've sorted art for them.

🖤 Black cats: protectors or omens? In history, they’ve warned of evil—leading towns to witches or guarding against curses. What do they mean in your local folklore? Here's a sample from the book, Short Scares! cambrianhousebooks.com/cats

The Cailleach is coming! This Celtic goddess emerges on Feb. 1st to seek firewood. Good weather means she will gather as much as she likes (6 more weeks of cold!). In poor weather, wood will be hard to find & an early Spring is on the way. Sound silly? Punxsutawney Phil thinks not! #folklorefriday

Black cats with white spots on their chest are known to the Scottish as Fairy Cats, cat-sith, huge as a dog with an attitude to match. Prone to stealing souls, on Samhain if given a saucer of milk they offer blessings, and a curse without. #FolkloreFriday

Parsley: traditionally, you would sow this on Good Friday, between noon and 3.00pm, because the seeds have to "go to Hell and back" before they germinate. #FolkloreFriday en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parsley

Today I’m covering the basics about Boggarts.
Fun facts:
-The word “Bogeyman” has the same root as “Boggart”
-Most cultures have their own boggarts. Poltergeists, Púca, Brownies, hobgoblins, and gremlins could all be considered boggarts.
